This is the first time I’ve ever felt that I was a person to Ansley. She hugs me. Genuinely hugs me. All I can do is rub her back and let her cry. It’s probably the first time she’s cried in the presence of anyone. When she pulls away, she’s quick to use the tissues. She gets up to go over to the jet’s bathroom to clean up.
Since meeting Phoebe, I’ve felt nothing but remorse. I think Violetta is right, and she’s making me soft. All of us. I didn’t know I was capable of forgiveness until I met her. I take a couple of easy conceal guns and take a seat. When she comes back, she’s got her head held high. Her eyes are clear of redness, and her makeup has returned to its original state. The slight puffiness is only there if you know what she looks like day in and day out.
“I’m sorry,” she says. “I don’t know what’s coming over me.”
“Phoebe is,” I laugh. “It’s the mark. She amplifies all of our emotions. Esepcially the suppressed ones. Why do you think I can tolerate Dad now? She fucking loves our father. So do the pups. She doesn’t have a single hateful bone in her body. Spiteful, maybe, but not hateful. She says it’s a draining emotion. Holding on to shit that doesn’t matter anymore is bad for us.”
“Do you really think she feels that?”
“I do. She will dead ass turn around and immediately make a joke about what just happened. I’ve never seen anything like that. She only takes things personally after she’s warned me about her not liking something.”
“What the fuck was going on in your stupid head when you brought in Amy to try to shadow her. She could have gotten hurt,” she glares at

“Amy didn’t mean anything to me.”
“That’s not how it works, Nate. Women don’t have a second head to think with. We have one and a heart. Sometimes it’s hard to tell which one we’re using. If Phoebe had turned out to be a human, she could have seriously hurt her or worse. Anyone you’ve slept with is off limits with literally anything, or you’re going to be responsible for a whole lot of women dying.”
“You don’t have to kill them.” I glare at her, and it hits me. Phoebe has said that to both me and her sister on more than one occasion.
“Yes, I do. Because no one is going to make my mate feel like she’s less than what she is, and like I said. It’ll be your fault. I should have their heads stuffed and sent to you. Maybe then you’ll know to stop bringing your groupies around Phoebe and the pups. Disrespectful ass little shit.”
The pilot announces that we’re landing. We buckle in, and I decide that dropping the argument entirely is the best course of action. I make sure I have everything I need and watch as she prepares herself. Everything seems to be in order. I wonder when the last time she went out on the field was. Dad has a few guards shadowing her when she’s out on public.
“Refuel. I don’t want to wait when I come back,” she orders the pilot. He bows and opens the door for us. She doesn’t acknow‘ e him in
anyway.
“Thank you,” I tell him.
“Rogue King,” he bows.
“You should be nicer to them,” I say as we walk out to the waiting car.
“You should shut the fuck up. I’m running a pack the size of two states. Not a little luxury town with ten thousand wolves.”
“You’re going to turn it into a resort, aren’t you?”

“I’m going to make it the second richest pack in the US,” she shrugs, handing me a phone. “Fashion week there is going to be one of the most prestigious events of the year. She’s going to love it.”
I set up the GPS at the location where her husband is.
“Why did you agree to get married?” I ask her.
“Diamonds.”
“Diamonds?”
“Caves filled with diamonds. If I killed the alphas and took the pack by force, Derek,” she says his name mockingly. “Would have come in and claimed it. I would have to do the work and only get a percentage of the profit. This way, it all belongs to us.”
“Diamonds,” I repeat.
“Have you chosen one for her?”
“One what?”
“A diamond, you ass. She was raised mortal. Mortals get married. It’s how they bond for life.”
“Marriage is a business deal. Not a mating.” that shouldn’t apply to us. I can think a million things we could do that are much better.
“It’s the same thing to humans. You are the worst mate ever.”
“Says the one in the dog house.”
“She’s going to forgive me when I gift her a diamond the size of her head.”
“You’re an idiot.” I laugh. “Would you have done it?”
“What?”
“Had a child with this man?”
“If you had died, I wouldn’t have had a choice. A true heir would need to take over the pack, or the company would be picked off by the others.”
“Who is he?”
“TJ Clove.”
I laugh because surely she didn’t say that she’s married to TJ Clove.
“What?”
“You know him?” she smiles.
“TJ Clove?”
“Yeah. Big guy, side part, really silent type, I don’t think I said ten words to him.”
“Yes, I know who he is. He’s the guy everyone gets their premium Coke from. He owns hella farms in Columbia,” I glare at her.
“You’re lying,” she laughs and then shakes her head. “Nuh–uh.”

“Pull over, you fucking idiot,” I groan. “You are so lucky Roman and Violetta are so close. We need a concrete plan to eliminate this man. really are an idiot.”
“How was I supposed to know?” she pulls over.
“He’s you’re husband, Ansley,” I growl and make the call. “Your husband of almost five years.”
“What up?” Roman answers on the second ring. I can hear the sound of him playing video games in the background.
“Get Vy. I need your help.”
“How much firepower do we need?” he asks.
“We’re going after Clove.”
“Duuude. This is why we’re best friends. I love you,” he laughs. “Send the details. We’ll be there asap. Vy, get your new rocket launcher
“Why?” I hear her ask.
“We’re going after Clove.”
“Can I come?” Baby asks.
“Can Ramona come?”
“Yeah, I guess. I don’t see why not.”
“I love you, Knight!” she screams.
“These are you friends? Weren’t you just giving me grief about killing your girl friends?” Ansley asks.
“There’s a difference in taking out a dangerous drug dealer and some girl I hooked up with while I was high on the shit said drug dealer sells.”
“A dead body is a dead body. You can try to justify it however way you want, brother. We all gotta sleep.”
