Jennifer dragged her suitcase behind her, turned around, and walked out. The sound of the door closing was barely audible.
Donald snapped back to his senses and whipped around, but she was already gone. Not even a glimpse of her back remained. Now, he was the only one left in the house.
He thought, ‘So this is really our last goodbye?‘ Suddenly, he slumped down onto the floor, feeling utterly defeated.
He thought, ‘I’m the one who brought up the divorce, and she was the one who chose to terminate the pregnancy. We both agreed to get divorced. What’s left for me to feel sad about? Maybe this really is the end for us.‘
But Donald somehow still felt a trace of unwillingness in his heart. He clenched his fists, lowered his head, buried his face in his hands, and sobbed uncontrollably.
Meanwhile, with Teresa. That evening, after Miriam left, Evelyn called Teresa.
Evelyn said that Lucas still hadn’t woken up, but Jonathan had come by and brought in a bunch of experts to conduct a detailed diagnosis on Lucas.
“Jonathan really helped a lot. We’re so lucky to have him around,” Evelyn said.
“Yeah,” Teresa replied. “I’ll make sure to thank him properly.”
Then Teresa shared some things about Jennifer with Evelyn. She didn’t mention Jennifer’s suicide attempt or the divorce.
She planned to wait until Lucas woke up and Evelyn returned to Nareigh before telling her about Jennifer and Donald’s divorce. For now, she just said that Jennifer had gone on a trip.
“Really?” Evelyn asked. “Did Hannah go alone? It’s not safe for a girl to travel by herself.”
“Donald went with her,” Teresa replied.
“Oh, that’s good,” Evelyn said, feeling relieved. Her brow relaxed a bit. “It’s nice for Hannah to get away and clear her head. When she comes back, we can tell her about Peggy being her real mother. I’m sure she’ll be able to accept it.”
Teresa paused for a moment before saying, “Okay.”
Not long after hanging up, Teresa thought about taking a shower and going to bed. But as soon as she finished her shower, her legs started to cramp. She wasn’t sure if it was because she hadn’t been very active the past couple of days.
Actually, when she was pregnant with Michael, she would always get cramps in her calves and feel uncomfortable all over during the later stages of pregnancy. Now, her second pregnancy made her go through the same thing.
That night, her legs were so sore that she couldn’t fall asleep, and her belly was also feeling a bit bloated and painful from time to time.
Unable to bear it any longer, she called the doctor. After examining her, the doctor said she was fine and that these were normal pregnancy symptoms. The doctor just told her to tough it out. After all, pregnancy was always comfortable.
Then the doctor asked if she wanted to inform Jonathan, but Teresa refused. Teresa thought, ‘He’s not here with me, anyway. Even if I call him, there’s nothing he can do except worry!‘
Leaning back against a pillow, Teresa stretched out her legs on the bed. The discomfort kept her wide awake. All of a sudden, she found

herself wondering, ‘Why am I even putting myself through this?‘
Sometimes, when the discomfort got really bad, she honestly just wanted to be done with this pregnancy.
Meanwhile, over in Jarisburg. Not long after Evelyn hung up the phone, something suddenly went wrong with Lucas’s health. He’d actually been showing signs of waking up these past couple of days, but suddenly, his vital signs started dropping fast.
Evelyn was so scared she burst into tears. Jonathan immediately called the doctors, and as soon as they saw Lucas’s condition, they rushed
to resuscitate him.
“Lucas!” Evelyn stumbled after the stretcher as it was wheeled toward the operating room. “Please be okay, Lucas.”
