Chapter 18
Sophia was calm now.
She had already begun packing.
When her phone buzzed with an incoming call from Karina, she paused, set down the half–folded shirt, and picked it up.
“Does Vincent know?”
Karina’s tone was direct–firm.
Sophia’s voice was soft.
“No. He doesn’t.”
“We’re talking about your first child, Sophia. Are you sure you want to do this?”
“We’re getting divorced,” she said quietly. “He has Rowan. He won’t care about an accident like this.”
Karina fell silent.
She had always known the full story of Sophia and Vincent’s marriage.
“Look,” she finally sighed. “I wasn’t exactly supportive when you married him. But over the years, watching you with him and Rowan…. I really thought maybe this strange arrangement of yours might last forever.”
She paused.
“I mean, after you left Ethan… I thought you’d finally found your happiness.”
Sophia blinked, her eyes dry–but tight with emotion.
There was no point in explaining.
She’d lost control of her heart.
She’d loved the wrong person.
“I’ll come see you tomorrow,” she said.
“Not for the procedure,” Karina said sharply. “You’ll need a full exam first.”
Sophia nodded, voice steady. “Okay.”
When the call ended, she put her phone aside and went back to packing.
Vincent had given her the Moonlight Villa in the divorce.
But she had no intention of staying.
She only took a few daily essentials–clothes, bags–and left everything else behind. If Vincent didn’t want to deal with it, he could clean it out when he sold the house.
She signed the divorce agreement and placed it squarely on the coffee table–somewhere he couldn’t possibly miss it.
Then she wheeled her two suitcases out the front door.
She didn’t look back.

Chapter 18
Karina studied her closely.
She had watched Sophia love Vincent for five years–quietly, painfully. Not out of obsession, but out of loyalty. Out of a debt only she could feel.
It was the kind of love that left no room for dignity.
Vincent, on the other hand….
Had never truly been part of the story.
“I’ll think about it,” Sophia said finally.
Her voice was low, but certain.
“I’ll tell you once I’ve made up my mind.”
Karina nodded.
She had patients to see. Sophia didn’t want to take up more of her time.
She left the OB–GYN ward and walked toward the elevators.
When she stepped out on the first floor, the doors opened–and she froze.
Vincent was walking in from the hospital’s main entrance.
In his arms was Rowan.
A cooling patch was pressed to the boy’s forehead.
Sophia’s heart skipped.
Rowan spotted her first.
His sickly little face lit up with delight.
“Mommy!”
