Chapter 8

Sure enough, Jasper’s condition worsened by the day, and he even began showing symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea.

Anyone could see that Jasper was seriously ill.

Eloise finally couldn’t sit still any longer and insisted on taking Jasper to see a doctor.

I accompanied them to the hospital with a worried expression on my face.

As soon as we arrived at the hospital, the doctor frowned upon seeing Jasper’s symptoms. “What have you people been doing? Jasper clearly has liver problems – how could you wait until now to bring him in!”

Eloise couldn’t believe it, her aged face instantly contorting. “Doctor, what are you saying? There’s something wrong with Jasper’s liver?”

The doctor said further tests were needed, but his preliminary diagnosis was liver failure.

When Eloise heard that Jasper’s liver was failing, she was so frightened that she fainted on the spot.

Only then did I speak up to the doctor: “Doctor, actually Jasper has been like this for quite a while. I kept urging Eloise to bring

him to see a doctor, but she always said it was normal for children to be this way. She also said hospitals were full of germs and refused to come no matter what.”

The doctor sighed helplessly and said that judging by Jasper’s condition, the outlook wasn’t optimistic.

I secretly glanced at Emma, who was trembling beside us.

Henry was fine, but something had happened to Jasper. As the nanny, her responsibility was significant.

Jasper was rushed into the ICU.

Despite the doctors’ best efforts to save him, they ultimately couldn’t save his life.

Eloise finally slowly regained consciousness, and the first thing she asked upon opening her eyes was about Jasper’s condition.

I could barely contain my laughter inside, but I forced a grief-stricken expression on my face and didn’t dare make a sound.

It was then that Stephen sorrowfully told her: “Mom, Jasper is dead. Please accept my condolences.”

Eloise shook her head in disbelief, seeming to age even more overnight. “How is that possible? I’ve been taking such good care of Jasper!”

I pretended to reluctantly reveal the truth. “Yesterday the doctor asked us if there were any harmful substances in our house that could have caused Jasper to be poisoned, like laundry detergent or something. Later we investigated and found out that Emma had accidentally mixed up the laundry detergent while doing laundry, which caused Jasper’s clothes to be contaminated with fluorescent agents.”

Eloise’s eyes widened. “Then why is Henry perfectly fine?”

I smiled slightly. “You forgot – I used to be a perfumer. I can tell right away when something smells wrong.”

Eloise pointed at me with a trembling finger. “It was you! You knew all along, yet you still let my son die!”

“That’s not fair,” I responded coldly. “Weren’t you the one who tried to harm my son first?”

Stephen, now understanding the truth, began accusing Eloise: “Mom, Henry is your own grandson! Why would you try to harm him?”

Eloise was momentarily speechless, too agitated to get the words out. “How could I possibly harm Henry? Jasper is the one who’s dead now – your own brother! It’s all Hazel’s fault. How could she be so vicious, knowing the truth but still letting Jasper die!”

Now Henry was safe and sound. Although it was originally

Eloise who had tried to take Henry’s life, Jasper was the one who had died. Caught in the middle, Stephen wavered for a

moment.

I sneered coldly and pulled out a paternity test report.
