My Son 6

Chapter 6

I nodded to Stephen and turned to open the door. “Eloise, I was rude earlier. If you want to stay at our place, you’re welcome to.”

That evening, Stephen and I reviewed the surveillance footage together.

Eloise was lounging comfortably on the sofa, acting every bit like the lady of the house, while Emma waited on her attentively.

Emma said regretfully, “Eloise, it’s all my fault for being careless and letting them switch the babies back. How did they find out? Do you think they suspected something?”

While playing with Jasper, Eloise flashed a cold smile. “It doesn’t matter. We’ve successfully moved into their house now. Emma, you understand—infant mortality is quite common. As long as Hazel’s child is gone, she won’t be able to get pregnant again anytime soon. With my son constantly appearing before her eyes, she’ll naturally transfer all her affection to him.”

Emma replied, “Eloise, you’re so thoughtful! What method should we use next…”

The rest of their conversation was inaudible as Eloise, seemingly worried about eavesdroppers, lowered her voice and whispered in Emma’s ear.

The next morning, Emma personally hand-washed new clothes

for both children.

Eloise kept praising her efficiency, saying it wasn’t easy to wash so many clothes in one morning.

I walked to the balcony and looked at the identical little outfits hanging there, catching a faint floral scent in the air.

I casually asked, “Emma, that fragrance smells lovely. What laundry detergent are you using?”

Emma smiled and handed me the detergent bottle nearby. “This is the premium baby-specific detergent you specially ordered online.”

Then I remembered-that was indeed the case.

But the more I smelled it, the more something seemed off.

After they went for their afternoon nap, I went to the balcony

alone.

Since both children wore identical items I had prepared in advance, Emma had been thoughtful enough to use different colored hangers to distinguish between them.

I sniffed Henry’s clothes and then Jasper’s clothes separately.

The scents were almost identical, but having worked as a perfumer at a fragrance company before trying to conceive, I

was exceptionally sensitive to odors.

On Henry’s clothes, besides the detergent’s own fragrance, there was a hint of jasmine mixed in.

That scent was identical to the ordinary laundry powder we normally used.

Jasmine fragrance is naturally irritating to infants, and most regular laundry powders contain fluorescent agents. If these residues remain on baby clothes, they can cause skin allergies at best, and potentially affect liver and kidney function at worst!

No wonder Henry died of liver and kidney failure in my previous life—it must have been because this vicious woman had been washing his clothes with inferior laundry powder all along.

Baby skin is naturally delicate and sensitive, and children love to chew on their clothes. Damp sleeves make it even easier for toxic substances to enter their bodies.

While they were still asleep, I quickly and quietly switched all the clothes around.

In my previous life, she destroyed our family. In this life, don’t blame me for using the same methods against them.
