Chapter 5

On the day I returned home from the hospital, Eloise, who was supposed to go back to the countryside, was waiting at our door with the baby in her arms.

Our family of three stood facing her.

“Mom, what are you doing at our house?” Stephen asked.

Eloise gave an awkward smile. “Stephen, what kind of question is that? Your home is my home, isn’t it? Besides, it’s not convenient for me to take care of a baby all by myself. Living here with you all, I’d have some support!”

I frowned. “We can hire another nanny for you, or let Emma go back with you. I can hire another nanny.”

No matter what, I would never let her set foot in my house again.

Hearing that I wanted to send both her and Emma away, Eloise panicked. “Stephen, look at your wife! She’s trying to kick both me and your little brother out!”

Stephen still insisted, “We’re not trying to kick you out. It’s just that with two children here, it would affect both your rest and Hazel’s. Besides, Emma can’t handle taking care of everyone alone.”

But Emma stepped forward and said, “No, sir, it’s just one more little child. They’re easy to take care of, not troublesome at all!”

This made me even more certain that Emma was definitely Eloise’s person.

Thinking it over, Emma had probably been planted by Eloise from the very beginning.

No wonder during my pregnancy, she always made those heavily nutritious foods, claiming they were to supplement my nutrition and were good for the baby. In reality, she wanted me to get fatter and fatter, making delivery more difficult.

Fortunately, I always followed the doctor’s advice and was quite picky about food. Those nutritious meals were mostly eaten by Stephen instead, and he actually gained a lot of weight during

my pregnancy.

Seeing Emma backing her up, Eloise insisted on staying at our house.

She pulled the same trick as before, holding the baby and lying down on the floor, crying and shouting in the hallway: “John, look at your son! Was it easy for me to give you a little son? They’re trying to kick me out! How can they be so heartless? If you won’t let me stay inside, fine! This hallway is spacious enough. I’ll just sleep here with Jasper and let all the neighbors see what a joke your family is!”

Emma also started crying, trying to help Eloise up while saying, “You just gave birth, don’t lie on the floor! You might catch cold!”

Then she turned to us and said, “Sir, the baby in Eloise’s arms is your little brother after all. At her age, having a baby is already very difficult.”

Eloise cried even louder: “I’ve raised my son for twenty or thirty years with such hardship, and now you want to kick me out! I don’t want to live anymore! I’ll just bash my head against this wall right now!”

With that, she held the baby and made as if to ram into the wall.

Stephen couldn’t bear it and looked at me with conflicted

emotions.

Not knowing that Eloise wasn’t his biological mother, she had indeed raised him as her own son all these years.

And those truths that hadn’t yet come to light hadn’t shaken his belief that “the kindness of raising is greater than the kindness of giving birth.”

From the beginning, I had been thinking that if I could stay away from Eloise, maybe I could protect Henry.

If she stopped causing trouble, I would be willing to let go of everything her family had done to me in my previous life and

live peacefully with them.

But once she continued to covet our property and tried to harm us, the fact that she had no blood relation to Stephen would be my final trump card.

But now, watching Eloise making such a scene and acting so shamelessly, it seemed she would never give up!

Although she couldn’t switch the babies, she could still harm

Henry.

As long as something happened to Henry and I couldn’t have children for several years, Jasper could be legitimately brought into our home for us to raise.

So only by completely getting rid of her could our family of three truly live in peace!
