Teresa’s words were cut short. Her body was suddenly pulled into a strong embrace. She glanced sideways at the man who was holding her.
Jonathan said in a low voice, word by word, “You should think about yourself first! Before you do anything, you need to think about whether you might get hurt, of if there’s any danger to you.
“Only after that should you worry about anyone else. If you get hurt, everyone who cares about you will be worried sick!”
Teresa fell silent. Jonathan’s embrace felt incredibly warm. Even after all these years, his arms still felt just like they always did. Only his
warmth could set her heart on fire.
Teresa’s eyes grew moist. It didn’t matter whether there was love in this embrace or not. Then she nodded, letting him know she understood.
Jonathan slowly let go of her and then gave her a mock glare. “You’d better really get it this time.”
Teresa nodded, gently rubbing her belly as she soothed, “I’m sorry, sweetie. Mommy frightened you. I promise I won’t be so impulsive next
time.”
Jonathan teased, “The baby says, ‘Having a mom like you is my greatest honor. But if you act impulsively again, I won’t let you off easily!“”
Teresa was speechless.
Jonathan let out a helpless sigh with a hint of indulgent affection in his eyes. “Alright, no more teasing. Want some strawberries?”
Teresa nodded. “Sure.” She happened to be a little thirsty.
Jonathan said, “Grapes?”
Teresa said, “Yeah.”
Jonathan said, “Pomegranates?”
Teresa murmured, “I want all of them.”
Jonathan gave her a speechless look and said, “I’ll go buy some from the supermarket downstairs. Wait here.”
Teresa replied, “Okay.”
As dawn approached, Jonathan ran into Donald and Jennifer on his way back with the fruit. Then he stopped.
Jennifer hurried over and asked anxiously, “Where’s Teresa? How is she? Is she alright? And the baby–are they both okay?”
“Thanks to you, we almost lost the baby,” Jonathan replied sullenly.
“What?” Jennifer was more worried. “I’m so sorry, this is all my fault. I shouldn’t have made Teresa worry about me when she’s pregnant.
Which room is she in? I need to go see her!”
But Jonathan politely turned her down. He looked at Jennifer and said distantly, “She needs some real rest these next few days, so it’s best if you don’t go see her for now. I’ll take good care of her.”
Jennifer fell silent. Donald stepped up and said, “Jonathan, I’m really sorry. Let me say this for Jennifer–sorry for all the trouble we’ve
caused you. Come on, let’s go. Jonathan will definitely take good care of Teresa, so you can relax.”

Donald nodded and was about to turn away, but Jonathan spoke up first, “Don’t bother. There’s nothing left for us to talk about.” He had no intention of showing Jennifer any courtesy.
He thought, ‘She was the woman who had repeatedly tampered with the paternity test results between me and Michael, and the person who, time and time again, put her own selfish desires above her family’s feelings.
“If it weren’t for Teresa and Donald, I would have thrown her out of Nareigh without a second thought. It’ll be best if she never shows up in front of me again.‘
“I’m sorry,” Jennifer suddenly spoke up. She bowed to Jonathan. Right now, she had finally put down the pride she cared about all the time.
“Thank you for letting go of the past and actually saving me today. And thank you for taking care of Teresa,” she said.
The next second, Jennifer bowed even deeper. Even Jonathan never expected Jennifer to actually do that.
