Chapter 789
Her fingers were shaking uncontrollably, and all sorts of terrible images flashed through her mind. Jonathan reached over and held her hand, trying to steady her, but Teresa still looked absolutely pale.
She suddenly turned to Jonathan and said, “It’s really bad. Jennifer thinks Donald cheated on her. Now she probably feels like life isn’t worth living anymore. Her phone’s off. She might actually do something crazy.”
“It’s okay. She won’t do anything to hurt herself,” Jonathan tried to reassure her.
“No…” Teresa sobbed. “She will. I never should’ve said those things to my mom at the hospital. I didn’t know she was coming. If anything happens to her, her death will be on me. I don’t want to be the reason someone gets hurt.”
“It won’t come to that,” Jonathan said, pulling Teresa into his arms and rubbing her shoulder comfortingly. His chin brushed softly against her hair as he murmured, “Trust me, she’ll be fine.”
Jonathan could feel Teresa trembling in his embrace, so he pulled her even closer. The whole journey was pure torment.
At last, they returned to Nareigh. After getting the call, Donald rushed toward the airport, shouting as he ran, “Jonathan! Teresa!” He was drenched in sweat, gasping for breath.
Teresa hurried up to him and asked, “Did you find her? Did you find Jennifer?”
Donald shook his head, letting out a frustrated sigh. “I’ve checked everywhere she might go–her favorite restaurants, cafes, shopping malls. I went to all of them, but I still couldn’t find her.”
Teresa’s heart skipped a beat. “Did you call the police? Didn’t I tell you to call the police?!”
Donald looked even more helpless. “I went to the police station, but since Jennifer hasn’t been missing for 24 hours yet, they won’t open a
case.”
Teresa’s heart sank even deeper. She tried calling Jennifer again, but her phone was still turned off.
Jonathan glanced at Teresa and gave her shoulder a reassuring squeeze. “I’ll make some calls and get some people to help look for her. Don’t
worry.”
Teresa thanked Jonathan as he walked off to make the calls.
Donald, feeling a bit more at ease, said, “Jonathan knows a lot of people. I’m sure we’ll find Jennifer soon!”
Teresa frowned, afraid that something might happen to Jennifer before they even found her. Suddenly, she remembered something.
She said, “Wait, did you check the parks and lakes nearby? What about Nareigh Bay? Or the city moat? What if she jumped into the river? Did you check these places?”
Donald shook his head,
Teresa said, “Then let’s split up and check all those places, just in case!”
“Okay!” Donald agreed.
Meanwhile, Jonathan finished his call and joined Teresa as they headed toward the city moat to search for Jennifer.
As they walked along the bridge, Teresa gripped the railing and peered down into the water below. Jonathan held her hand firmly, afraid she might accidentally fall.

“Don’t worry,” Jonathan said softly. “I’ve already reached out to a lot of people. As soon as they find out where Jennifer is, they’ll call me right away.”
“Thanks. I’ve made you worry again.” Teresa said as she stared down at the water. Her mind was racing with terrible thoughts, ‘What if Jennifer has already done something irreversible?‘
“It’s going to be okay,” Jonathan reassured her and held her hand tightly. But he was also frowning worriedly.
Every second felt like an eternity. Nearly half of Nareigh had been turned upside down, but Jennifer was still nowhere to be found.
Teresa didn’t even have the appetite to eat. She slumped in the car, lowering her head worriedly.
It was already 7 p.m. Suddenly, Jonathan’s phone rang.
The caller said, “Mr. Lynn, I just spotted a woman in white standing on the rooftop of one of those abandoned high–rises in the development
zone.
“I’m not sure if she’s the one you’re looking for, but I snapped a photo. I’ll send it to you right now.”
