Chapter 766
“I hired a bodyguard and a nanny to take good care of Mike,” Jonathan said. “I have 24–hour cameras on my phone. I’ll be back tomorrow.”
Teresa nodded. That was when she realized Jonathan had come back alone.
He rushed back for the baby in her belly, but the fact that he came all the way from out of town on a night when she was overthinking gave her a strange feeling.
When Michael was around, she never felt that way.
“So who was that drunk woman who came looking for you today? Don’t tell me it was Jennifer?” Jonathan asked.
When Teresa heard that, her heart skipped a beat. She hadn’t planned on telling him, but he had guessed.
When she didn’t deny it, Jonathan got mad right away. “What did she want from you this time? Trying to hurt you again?”
Teresa shook her head. After thinking for a bit, she decided not to mention Jennifer’s divorce from Donald. “She was upset because she
couldn’t find her real mom, so she came over. We didn’t fight.”
Once they found Jennifer’s real mom, the truth would come out.

Jonathan sighed, glancing at Teresa’s thoughtful face, then suddenly reached out and pinched her cheek.
“Don’t look so gloomy. I’ve got good news,” he said.
“What news?” Teresa ignored what he just did.
Jonathan finally shared it. “Peggy really came back. Right now, she seems to be in Jarisburg.”
Teresa froze. “Seriously? How do you know? Have you seen her?”
Jonathan shook his head a little. “Not yet. I told my guy to look into it. We should find her soon. If she didn’t change her name, it’d be easy.”
That was also why Jonathan suspected that man at the airport. He came from Cerein to Jarisburg, looked like Teresa–too many coincidences. He might be Peggy’s son.
But that man’s last name wasn’t Davis.
“Thanks,” Teresa said. “Good thing you’re helping me. You know so many people; you’ll find her fast.”
Jonathan smiled, teasing her. “Now you realize how lucky you are to have me?”
Teresa cleared her throat. “Yeah. Anyway, thank you so much.”
She turned her eyes away, feeling a little awkward, and then her stomach growled. She was getting hungry.
“Your son wants a late–night snack,” Teresa said, rubbing her belly.
“I’ll make you some pasta,” Jonathan said. “It’s late, so I’ll keep it simple.”
“Just order takeout,” Teresa said. “No need to cook. You just got back from a flight.”
“It’s no trouble,” Jonathan washed his hands and went to the kitchen to make pasta.

Chapter 766
His cooking was addictive. After Teresa had eaten her fill, she saw Jonathan pick up his pajamas and head to her room.
“Why are you using my bathroom again? You have a shower in your room,” Teresa said.
“I’ve been on business trips, I haven’t had time to fix mine,” Jonathan said.

Teresa wondered if his shower was really broken. She watched his back as he walked into her bathroom, not sure if he was making excuses to
share it with her.
She went into his bathroom and turned on the shower. The water barely came out.
Teresa felt a little embarrassed. His shower really was broken. She didn’t know why she was overthinking. After all, he wasn’t the type to play
little tricks.
Teresa turned to leave Jonathan’s room but saw a photo on his nightstand. It was a picture of her and Michael.
That photo used to sit by the TV. She didn’t notice when he moved it there.
Teresa felt a little touched again. On such a lonely night, when she was feeling helpless and sad, the person who made her feel the safest had
come back.
He even cooked her a late–night meal, helped her look for someone, and placed a photo of her and their child by his bed.
For a moment, she couldn’t help wondering, ‘If Irene wasn’t around, would life like this be perfect?‘
She shook her head, thinking she was overthinking again.
In the room, Jonathan was squatting on the floor, fixing a music box.
“Your bathroom is too small. I lifted my arm and knocked it down by accident. I didn’t think you’d keep a music box in there,” he muttered.
“Ugh, stupid.”
“Who are you calling stupid?” Teresa snapped.
“Myself.” Jonathan glanced at her, half laughing. “I didn’t call you stupid. Why so jumpy?”
Teresa was silent for a moment.
She stood there watching him fix the music box and explained, “I just put it there without thinking. When you weren’t living here, I got used to leaving things anywhere. You might even find face wash in the kitchen.”
Jonathan shook his head. “Honestly, I admire how you managed to raise Mike this far.”
“What do you mean? Don’t look down on me,” Teresa said. “I just forget things sometimes. I take good care of my son.”
“That’s true. You always make gruel for him,” Jonathan said. “You’re good with it. Remember how you always made gruel for me when I
worked late?”
Teresa suddenly wanted to laugh. What he said brought back old memories. Back then, she really didn’t know how to cook anything else.
She said, “Do you remember that time you had Peter over? He came out of nowhere. The fridge was empty, and you said you’d go buy some
food.
“I stayed in the kitchen thinking I should make some gruel so he wouldn’t think I couldn’t cook at all.”
Jonathan laughed too. “And then you added way too much salt. Peter ate a whole bowl and pretended it was good.”

Teresa argued, “That’s because we didn’t eat any that night. If we had, we would’ve noticed.”
She could still remember how warm and eager she was when Peter came over. She even wanted to offer him a second bowl of gruel.
“No, no. It’s so good, but I’m full already!” Peter had waved his hands.
“The next day at work, Peter’s voice was completely gone,” Jonathan said.
“Seriously?” Teresa asked. He had never mentioned this to her.
“Before he got off work, Peter called me into his office and gave me this pity look. He said I had it tough,” Jonathan said. “I was confused at first. Turns out, he thought I always eat salty gruel.”
Teresa laughed her tears out.
They kept chatting like that until the music box was fixed. Jonathan handed it to her.
“Don’t put it back in the bathroom. It might get water inside,” he reminded her.
Teresa took the music box, and her fingers brushed against his hand. Her face turned hot in an instant. Her throat felt dry, and she looked away. “I know.”
Jonathan clicked his tongue. “Why are you blushing?”
Teresa didn’t want him to see how flustered she was, so she pretended to be calm and pointed at his bare chest under the pajama top. “Put
on your clothes. Don’t walk around like that.”
Jonathan glanced down at himself, then looked back at her.
“You’ve seen it so many times already. What’s the big deal now?” he said.
“With the way things are between us, do you think this is okay? Show some restraint, or our son will laugh at you,” she said.
Jonathan stared at Teresa and suddenly leaned closer.
The bed was right behind her. Teresa sat down hard on it, clutching the sheets. “What are you doing?”
