Dinner Tears 9

Dinner Tears 9

Chapter 9

“I heard she beat her own son just for 300 dollars on dinner!”

“How disgusting. People like her shouldn’t exist.”

“No wonder her family threw her out!”

“She’s nothing but garbage taking up space in this world.”

As I walked with my head down, emotionally charged passersby hurled rotten eggs and vegetables at me.

The insults were endless. Some even cursed me to die.

Then I received a message from Chloe.

Old hag, now you know what happens when you mess with me?]

I told you. Once I got into your house, you’d be the first to go.]

didn’t reply.

nstead, I hurried away from the scene and made a call.

To the only person who could strike fear into both thugs and police alike.

My brother.

His voice on the other end was relaxed, almost teasing, “Yo, sis. What’s gotten into you, calling ne all of a sudden?”

took a deep breath and said calmly, “Charles… I’ve been kicked out of my house.”

There was silence. Then his voice turned cold.

Who did it?”

Carlos. His mother. His son. And his girlfriend, Chloe.”

He didn’t respond immediately. Then he said, “Where are you? I’m coming.”

Half an hour later, a sleek black SUV pulled up beside me.

My brother stepped out, a cigarette in his mouth, his eyes scanning me from head to toe. Displeasure flickered across his face.

‘Sis,” he said, “you’ve been playing the good wife for too long. What happened to your brain?”

didn’t answer.

Back when I was dating Carlos, he was penniless and his family was drowning in debt.

My own family was well-off. My parents had always wanted me to marry someone of equal standing.

But I believed in love.

Money? We could earn it together.

I insisted on marrying him, against everyone’s advice.

Especially my brother’s.

Our relationship grew strained after that and over the years, we rarely kept in touch.

Now, hearing his sarcasm, I had no defense.

Even without him saying it, I knew I had been a fool.

Seeing my silence, my brother let out a breath and forced a grin.

“Don’t look so defeated.”

“You used to be the little devil who chased me around with a broom when we were kids.”

“My bros know I’m scared of no one-except you.”

A smile tugged at my lips.

“You’re not scared of me. You just don’t want to be mean to me.”

At that, his expression turned dark and serious.

“That’s right. And now the one person I never wanted to hurt has been bullied like this.”

‘Sis,” he said, voice low and dangerous, “I’m going to make them pay.”

Alarmed by the glint in his eyes, I quickly said, “Don’t do anything illegal.”

My brother had always had a violent streak.

n high school, he once hospitalized a boy for making fun of me.

f I hadn’t been pushed to the edge by Caleb and his pack of jackals, even the lawyer helpless, would never have asked my brother for help.

wanted justice, not blood.

But I also didn’t want to lose him.

He flicked the ash off his cigarette, eyes sharp and calm.

Don’t worry. I have my ways. I’ll make sure every last thing that belongs to you is returned, dow

o the cent.”

He took me to a villa under his name, then made a call.

‘David. Look into someone for me.”

Chloe Sinclair. Dig up everything.”

‘I want the whole world to see the price of touching my sister.”
