After Brook left, I went back to my classes, I sit in the back and glare at the teacher, hoping their head will explode and I won’t have to pay anymore attention at them, but they kept on talking and talking, about the smallest rules ever, and the stupidest rules, ones no one need or heard off. It’s why we have lawyers who’s job is to know the law and every detail of it and tell us when we shouldn’t cross the line, but here I am learning everything.
“Now everyone put your book to the side, pop quiz,” he says and everyone groans, this is why I wish for his head to explode, it’s the damn quizzes every single day.
“No peeking,” he says, handing us the quiz paper.
Lucky for me, I didn’t really need to pay the teacher any attention, I had to pay Kyle’s paper attention, since he doesn’t talk much he pays a lot of attention and he remembers everything, including all the boring details of the law we’re being taught.
My eyes were locked on his paper, he offered to sit next to me on my first day and when the quiz came and of course I wasn’t ready and I had no idea what to do, he slightly nodge me and showed me his paper and I copied everything which happened to all be the correct answers.
We finished our class and we walked out in silence, I’d kill to find out what Kyle story is, why is he so angry? Was he so angry that he ate his own tongue, bite it off and lost the ability to talk? I was thinking of

him and what might have happened to him, and what if I leave this place with Brook before I find out his story, it’ll kill me not to know though, I never knew I was so curious in my life until now.
“You wanna sit outside?” I ask Kyle, and he nods, we walk toward the garden outside so we can enjoy the sun a bit.
We sat outside in silence, I closed my eyes, remembering home, it’s getting closer, my chance to go back home and be there for my sister when she gives birth, to meet my first nephew ever, to mess with Lotus, to be normal again.
“Is she always this dreamy?” I heard a very familiar voice ask, and then Kyle chuckled at the question.
“I’m not dreamy, I’m just enjoying the sun,” I answer Mateo, knowing without opening my eyes that it’s him.
“Right the sun, get up, you’re gonna enjoy it a lot,” he says, and I look up at him, what is he up to?
“Why?” I ask out loud.
“Because you’re now part of the patrol, and you need to get ready,” he says.
“Want me to stretch and start jogging in my spot?” I ask him.
“No, but you need to get up and get ready,” he repeats his same words again.
“When did you even made it here?” I ask him.
“We’re not that far away, as soon as you said my name, she called me to come over,” he says.

“And so you dropped everything in your hand and came here? My hero,” I say in a sarcastic voice.
“Of course, when she told me that the little princess needs help, I couldn’t help but come over,” he says in a sassy voice that matches my
tone.
“What do you want from me?” I ask him with a sigh.
“To get up,” he says.
“Fine,” I sigh and do get up, I followed him toward the other side of the garden, one that had some guards around it, and then we were out.
“We trust you not to run away, you’re part of the patrol now, part of the people who are keeping the whole facility safe,” Mateo says, as I was eying the outside, I could just run away, I could run and never look back.
“Okay,” I say with a sigh, although I’d love to run away, I’m going to respect Brooklyn and not cause her any troubles.
“This is the leader of the patrol, you have to follow him and follow his lead, we’ll stay behind since we’re new here,” he says and I nod.
When the leader said that it’s time to shift, they all shifted, Mateo looked at me and nodded telling me to do it, I shifted to my wolf form, feeling the freedom of my second skin.
The leader gave a small howl and then took off, we all followed his lead, it’s not the first patrol I’ve run, I’ve been running along with them for the last ten years, but this one is different, the form is different from the pack, and we gotta stay in position, and not pass each other without permission.
