Chapter 11
The day after visiting my parents, I was up at dawn, dragging my suitcase to the airport.[]
Just as I was about to board, my phone buzzed. [
It’s Vesper.
He told me Zethar had been in a car accident on the way home.
It was really bad, but he was fighting the doctors, refusing any treatment.[]
Vesper wanted me to come back and talk some sense into him.[

Airport announcements echoed in the background, probably carrying through the phone.[]

Vesper stumbled over his words“Uh… yeah, I mean, it’s been on speaker the whole time. Just talk to him… he’s right here.“[]
My voice came out flat and cold.[]
“Zethar, we’re done. I’m not worried about whatever stunt you’re pulling, and I’m definitely not coming back. You cheated on me. I will never, ever forgive you for that.“[]
I could hear heavy, ragged breathing through the speaker.[]
Then Vesper absolutely lost his shit“Laura!What’s wrong with you?! Zethar’s barely alive and you’re gonna say that to him right now? Are you trying to kill him?“]
“Do you have any clue how furious his parents were about that ceremony bullshit you pulled? If Zethar hadn’t taken a beating from the Alpha Council to protect your ass, you’d be killed right now!“[]
“He came to get you with his back covered in claw marks from the punishment, and you didn’t even come home with him. Well, it’s ok.Now he’s lying here hooked up to oxygen and you’re still being this cruel? Do you have no conscience?!”
“Alpha Zethar’s been obsessed with you for years! He changed everything about himself, kissed your ass constantly, did whatever you wanted, and this is how you repay him?!“]
My throat closed up for a second.
“If he actually gave a damn about me, he wouldn’t have been fucking Selene behind my back!And you’re not exactly innocent either. When he supposedly ‘give up the wild ways‘ but kept hanging out with you losers, I should’ve known nothing had really changed!”
