Chapter 6
When I got to the car, our Beta driver Marcus was nowhere to be found.[]
Zethar sat in the passenger seat, Selene in the back.
The atmosphere was as awkward as always.[]
I smirked at Selene’s slightly swollen lips.
So all those times I thought they were flushed from fighting, they were actually red from kissing hardly behind my back…]]
And I was stupid enough to think they were just arguing.
I slid into the backseat and closed my eyes, exhausted.
“Where’s Marcus?“],
Zethar answered, “Restroom break. I’ll call him in a sec
I hummed softly in response.
Zethar turned around and handed me my thermos.
The scent of honey drifted up.
Tired?”

Then he looked at Selene, his tone turning commanding. “Selene, come sit up front!“[]
“No need.”
I opened my eyes and grabbed Selene’s hand, turning to smile sweetly at her.
“I still have plenty of secrets to share with Selene.”
Zethar frowned in annoyance. “What kind of secret can’t I hear?“[]
My smile widened.]
“Trash–talking you, obviously. If you heard it, you’d probably kick Selene out of the car.“]
Zethar snorted
“Oh, I don’t care how much you disapprove of this mating–Laura and I are fated mate. Watch your mouth.“]
Selene seemed to sense something and didn’t snap back like usual.]
Her face went rigid as she looked at me with guilty eyes.[]
I leaned close to her ear and whispered I went to Moonridge Villa last night.”

Selene flinched, dropping my hand like it burned her.[]
I figured she’d been with Zethar last night and found out I’d tested him.[]
But she didn’t dare make any big moves.[]
So she knew I’d tested Zethar, but not what I’d discovered.[]
She’d been fishing for information all day.[]
I laughed out loud, swallowing the stabbing pain in my chest and spoke viciously.
“I saw everything. Your little affair, your betrayal.[]
“My sweet Selene, my best pack friend. You’ve been so very good to me!“]
Selene gripped her dress tightly, turning away, but I forced her face back toward me.]
She tried to signal Zethar in the front seat.

But he wasn’t looking–some pack elder was greeting him through the window, so he got out to talk.

My voice turned icy. “Isn’t this exactly what you planned?]
“I find out about both of your betrayals before the ceremony, I call it off, and you swoop in.]
“You weren’t afraid to confess to him, so why are you scared that I saw it with my own eyes? The outcome’s the same either way, it?”
Selene stopped struggling and turned to look at me, biting her lip.

“You knew I’d tested Zethar, but you still came to rehearsal today–you wanted to see how I’d react, right?
“Well, here’s my reaction!“]
“I’m not following your little script. I’m going through with this mating ceremony and signing those papers in front of every pack member!”
I watched the shock spread across Selene’s face and smiled sarcastically.]

Selene buried her head in her hands, covering her ears.

“Selene, what did you say to Laura? Why is she crying?“]
He got out and squeezed into the backseat, his voice stern.[]

Selene wiped her tears and slammed the door behind her,

“Baby, tell me what you two were talking about just now.“]
Outside, Selene clearly froze mid–step.
I said shakily, “Just some… old stuff.“]

Zethar frowned in displeasure.[]
“Is she insane? Why would she bring up heavy stuff right now? What if it affects your mood? You need to look perfect for tomorrow–what if your eyes are all swellen from crying…“]]
He spoke loudly enough that his voice carried through the window.[]
