Chapter 7 Sentenced to Death
There was a flash of guilt on Mom’s face.
However, she soon regained her confidence and self–righteousness.
“I don’t care! I gave birth to you. I gave you life! I am taking that life back and telling you to die in Alex’s place. It’s only right!”
My heart went cold.
She did give me my life, but she did not raise me for long.
Even if I owed her anything… I repaid the debt in full in my last life.
I looked at her as my voice took a mocking tone. “Wake up. The evidence is clear and points to Alex as the murderer. How great do you think you are to make the police believe that I did it?”
That rendered her speechless. Still, she refused to believe me and forcefully dragged me to the police station.
Once there, she dragged an officer on duty aside to shove me at him.
“She killed him! My son is innocent!”
The officer was startled. When he registered what she said, he looked at her like she was an idiot.
“Arrest her now and release my son! He’s innocent!”
The officer was speechless. There was pity in his eyes as he looked at me.
At the start, he would patiently explain that the evidence was clear and beyond doubt, that Alex was already convicted.
However, Mom seemed deaf to his words as she insistently demanded he release Alex and arrest me instead.
As time went on, the officer grew impatient and snapped out a warning.
“Madam, if you keep going on, I will arrest you for obstruction of justice.”
Mom stumbled backward in fear.
Before we left, she even shot the officer a glare.
“Karma will get back at you for punishing the innocent!”
On the day of Alex’s sentencing, Mom and I were there in court.
Alex’s face was stark white as he struggled against the two officers who were pinning him to his seat.
“I don’t want to die. I don’t want to die!”
Finally, he was dragged away. When Mom returned home, she cried and sobbed the entire time.
Day after day, Mom grew thinner as she cried her heart out in her room. Some days, she would curse me out, saying I would die a
horrible death.
This continued on for two more months until Mr. Warner, the neighbor, returned.
When he heard what happened, he visited us just to wrap his arms around Mom to comfort her.
“I was only away for a few months. How did this happen? You’ve suffered a great deal.”
The sorrow on Mom’s face faded away, replaced by a shy blush.
She pretended to be so overwhelmed by distress that she buried her face in his chest. “Mr. Warner, you’re the only one I have

now.”
There was a flash of disdain in his eyes. Still, he continued to hold her and comfort her.
“It will all pass. From now on, I’ll be by your side.”
As I watched from my corner, I got goosebumps due to how grossed out I was.
How cheesy.
Mom had Mr. Warner move out of his rented apartment and move in with us. She said it was for mutual support.
Meanwhile, her attitude toward me improved by the day.
“I was wrong in the past. Still, I am your mom. Your dad and brother are gone now. We are all we have. You can’t leave me alone in the future.”
I chuckled when I heard her go on about her moral high ground.
“Of course not.”
After all, I was still hanging around for her.
That finally appeased her.
I started working in that underpaying, overworking factory just like I did in my past life.
Every time I was paid, Mom would take the money away, claiming it was my duty to financially support her since she was my mother.
Then, she would discuss with Mr. Warner where to go for a nice meal using my money.
A month later, I met Jason, the pervert.
After work that evening, I dashed home in a panic.
