Chapter 7

“You’re utterly shameless! You didn’t just cheat-you even had a child with that woman!”

“If my daughter hadn’t discovered the truth, would you have kept it hidden forever?”

“And to think we treated you like family. I saw you as my own son. How could you be this heartless?”

Gavin knew he had lost everything. Desperate, he clung to me, refusing to let go.

“Cassia, please… I can’t let you go. I won’t! I know you still care about me, even if just a little!”

“I swear-if you agree to remarry me, I’ll cut off all contact with that child and Sabrina forever!”

I kicked him away with all the strength I had. No matter how he cried or begged, I never looked back.

He had crushed my heart beyond repair. I was done. There was no returning to a man who betrayed me so thoroughly.

When he saw I remained unmoved, Gavin’s face twisted in humiliation and fury.

‘Cassia, don’t get cocky. If you don’t want me now, then don’t ever expect me to crawl back!”

‘Then go. The farther, the better. And don’t ever come back.”

His words stabbed into me like needles.

How could a love that had lasted for years end like this?

We were childhood sweethearts. I remembered everything-every vow, every promise to grow old ogether.

From innocent affection to building a life and family, I had wanted nothing more than to give him happiness.

Maybe I had devoted too much time to my career. Maybe I’d neglected him emotionally.

But none of that excused his betrayal.

Some wounds never heal. Some cracks never mend.

After receiving the divorce certificate, I didn’t hear from Gavin again.

assumed he and Sabrina were finally living the life they wanted-free to be together.

stopped asking, stopped caring.

When my parents introduced me to someone on a blind date, I agreed. It turned out to be Adrian 3lake-my junior from the same apprenticeship, someone I hadn’t seen in years.

With encouragement from both families, I reconnected with him and even invited him to join my company to gain experience.

Tired of the city and all its painful memories, I made plans to relocate and inspect new business projects elsewhere.

But on the day I was supposed to leave, I received an unexpected call-from a doctor.

“Miss Cassia, Gavin attempted suicide. We couldn’t reach any family, so we’re contacting you to settle the medical fees.”

I rushed to the hospital. He was crying, curled up in a hospital bed, but I felt… nothing. No pity.

No regret. Just emptiness.

As I turned to leave, he desperately fumbled for his phone and tried to call Sabrina.

The line didn’t go through.

The sound of his broken sobs echoed through the room, hollow and haunting.

I didn’t know where he’d been all this time. We had completely cut ties.

Online, public opinion had flipped. Social media was ablaze with fury directed at him:

“Serves him right! He cheated on his wife. What a disgrace of a man.”

“With a wife like that, and still he strayed? Let him rot.”

As I headed home, another message came-Gavin had fallen into shock. His mother had suffered a heart attack.

She had been in poor health, living in seclusion in the countryside for years. I had no way to contact her-until that night.

Just as I sat down to eat the soup Adrian had prepared, my phone rang.

It was her.

“Cassia…” her voice trembled, faint and raspy. “I’m dying. I just want to see you… one last time.”

For a moment, I froze. Then, heart heavy, I set down my chopsticks.

After a long internal battle, I made my decision-and headed to the hospital.
