Chapter 14
Over the next two weeks, Caroline was completely absorbed in her performances, with no spare energy to deal with Alexander.
It wasn’t until her final show ended that she finally had some well-deserved time off.
Just as Caroline was about to rent a car for a road trip, she received a call from Bennett.
On the other end, Bennett simply said that Alexander was in trouble and begged her to come to the Scott mansion.
Caroline knew Alexander’s personality well enough to assume this was just another one of his revenge tactics, but she didn’t want to call him out on it. Instead, she said good-naturedly, “I’m not a doctor. I can’t help him.”
Without waiting for Bennett’s response, she hung up.
To prevent Bennett from bothering her again, she thoughtfully blocked his number.
Afterward, Caroline tossed her phone aside and prepared to hail a cab to the car rental agency.
Once in the car, she told the driver her destination and dozed off in the back seat.
Chapter 14

After what felt like a long time, the driver stopped and woke her up, saying they’d arrived.
Without thinking much about it, Caroline paid the fare and groggily got out of the car.
When she finally saw the building in front of her clearly, she realized the driver had taken the wrong route and brought her to the Scott mansion instead.
Caroline was both annoyed and amused. She pulled out her phone to call another cab while heading toward the exit.
But just then, the Scott mansion’s front gate opened, and Parker emerged with a group of servants.
The moment Parker saw Caroline, he was both surprised and delighted: “Mrs… Miss Green, you’re finally here.”
With that, Parker led the group in escorting Caroline into the
Scott mansion.
The moment Caroline stepped back into the Scott mansion, a flicker of bewilderment crossed her eyes.
She had left in such a hurry back then that she hadn’t taken many of her belongings with her.

So the entire Scott mansion remained exactly as it was when she left, making her momentarily feel as if she had never left at all.
Parker was very attentive, serving Caroline coffee while explaining what had happened.
Alexander wasn’t trying to get revenge on her.
Ever since he and Caroline had parted ways last time, he’d become a completely different person, locking himself in his room all day drinking and calling out her name.
Parker was worried something might happen to Alexander, which was why he’d used this method to get Caroline to come
over.
As he led Caroline upstairs, he explained in a low voice.
After hearing Parker’s explanation, Caroline felt conflicted.
Alexander’s current state seemed to be telling everyone that he couldn’t live without her.
But if he truly loved her, how could he have been so heartless in his revenge against her back then?
As Parker gently pushed open the bedroom door, a strong smell of alcohol hit Caroline’s nose.

She didn’t go in, just stood at the doorway and smiled slightly at Parker, saying, “He’s still alive and well, isn’t he? Looks like he doesn’t need me.”
With that, Caroline turned to leave. Parker panicked and
blocked her path while shouting into the room: “Mr. Scott, Miss Green is here.”
Hearing this, Alexander, who was sitting drunkenly on the floor, looked up toward the doorway.
Perhaps unable to see clearly who was at the door, Alexander shook his head and tried hard to open his eyes wide.
Finally, when Caroline’s figure became clear in his vision, Alexander suddenly scrambled up from the floor and stumbled toward her: “Caroline.”
Caroline couldn’t dodge in time and found herself tightly embraced in his arms.
Alexander said, “Caroline, you’re finally willing to see me. Please, don’t leave me.”
Thinking the person before him was a hallucination brought on by too much drinking, he made no attempt to hide the longing in

his heart, cupping her face as he leaned in to kiss her.
But what greeted him was a sharp slap from Caroline.
Taking advantage of Alexander’s stunned moment, she pushed him away: “Alexander, have you lost your mind!”
