For a second, she thought maybe the house was on fire. She hurried to the kitchen, only to see Jonathan busy cooking. His tall figure actually looked kind of at home in the kitchen, surrounded by clouds of steam. Teresa coughed to get his attention.
Hearing her, Jonathan turned around and raised an eyebrow. “You’re up? Give me five more minutes and we can eat.”
“How did you get in here?” Teresa asked.
“I came in with Mike,” Jonathan replied.
Teresa frowned, hearing that Michael really was back.

Jonathan turned off the stove, his face unreadable. “Go get Mike for dinner. Not sure if he’s asleep yet.”
Teresa let out a cold laugh. Changing the subject wouldn’t work. “I’m fine. I’m not hungry.” She turned and went back to her room, closing the door
behind her.
Jonathan frowned, thinking, ‘Why does she have to be so stubborn? She hasn’t eaten all day, and she already looks even skinnier than before.”
Just then, Michael came running over to Jonathan. “Wow, Mr. Lime! It smells so good. What
t yummy stuff did you make?”
Jonathan motioned for Michael to come closer. “Mike, I need you to do me a favor.” He crouched down and whispered something in Michael’s ear.
Michael nodded and stood up straight like a little soldier. “Roger that!”
“Alright, go on, good boy.” Jonathan kissed Michael on the forehead, and Michael’s face turned bright red as he quickly turned and ran off.
Teresa had planned to skip dinner, but Michael came into her room, acting all cute and clingy, his voice soft and babyish. “Mommy, why aren’t you eating? Skipping meals isn’t good for you. Please don’t skip dinner, Mommy.”
Teresa sniffled, “I’m not hungry, sweetie. You go eat, okay?”

Jonathan was setting out the tableware, and a slow smile crept onto his lips as he watched them.
“Come on; let’s eat. Have some soup,” Jonathan said gently, ladling a bowl for Teresa first, then one for Michael, and finally serving himself.
“Mommy, I’ll get you a spoon,” Michael chirped, skipping off to the kitchen and happily dropping a spoon into Teresa’s bowl.
