Chapter 266
Gloria’s illness had come on like a storm, fierce and sudden.
Landon had stayed by her side at the hospital all night, but there was still no final diagnosis.
Amelia handed Kimsey over to the nanny first thing in the morning before hurrying to the hospital.
“Honey, how is she?” Amelia asked, her voice tight with worry.
“She’s out of immediate danger, but we’re still waiting for the results,” Landon replied, exhaustion written all over his face.
Landon was utterly exhausted because of all the uncertainty, fear and anxiety gnawed at him,
‘What exactly is wrong with Mom? How could it be so serious that she started coughing up blood?‘ Landon couldn’t help but worry.
“Don’t worry, Honey. She’ll be okay,” Amelia said softly, squeezing his hand.
Landon took the milk Amelia had brought him.
The warm, sweetened liquid gave him a much–needed energy boost.
After waiting a bit longer, Wesley came in, looking grim, holding a thick stack of test results.
Landon and Amelia immediately stood up. “Any updates?” they asked together.
“Your mom has a tumor in her stomach,” Wesley said.
“It’s benign, right?” Landon’s eyes turned red in an instant.
His tightly clenched fists showed just how anxious he was.
“We won’t know for sure until after the surgery and the pathology results,” Wesley said.
“It has to be benign!” Amelia insisted.
“I think so too,” Wesley agreed.
As a doctor, his reassurance eased Landon’s anxiety a little.
Landon immediately called Morgan. “Dr. Mitchell, my mom’s sick. I really need your help with her surgery…”
“I can do the surgery myself,” Wesley said, a slight twitch at the corner of his eye.
Amelia grinned. “Right now, all he wants is the absolute best doctor.”
“Alright, you win!” Wesley shrugged, admitting defeat!
‘In front of Dr. Mitchell, I really am just a tiny ant, Wesley thought to himself.
Once everything was sorted out, Landon finally relaxed a little. “Wesley, Dr. Mitchell won’t be able to make it to Norava for another five days. Sorry to trouble you with looking after my mom until then.”
“Landon, you don’t even have to ask. I’ll take care of it,” Wesley said, holding the stack of test results. “By the way, that boy who showed up at the wedding yesterday… don’t tell me he’s your secret son or something?”
“No,” Landon replied.

“Then whose kid is he?” Wesley pressed, his curiosity obvious.
Actually, he wasn’t the only one. Everyone who’d been at the wedding yesterday was dying to know too
But Landon had put a lid on the news, and no reporters dared to say a word about it today.
“It’s my dad’s kid,” Landon said.
“What?” Wesley blurted out.
Wesley nearly jumped out of his seat in shock.
Amelia said helplessly, “Wesley, we really can’t let Gloria get agitated right now.”
“Exactly!” Wesley tensed up, his whole body on alert. “A patient’s emotional state is crucial for their condition. Whatever you do, make sure she doesn’t find out about this.”
Landon quietly clenched his fists, trying to keep his emotions in check.
He’d spent a long time wrestling with himself before finally deciding to come clean to Gloria.
But he never expected that she’d fall ill before he even had the chance to tell her.
–
But in this world, secrets would never stay buried for los always got out eventually.
Sooner or later, Gloria would find out the truth.
“Have a few more people keep watch and make sure no one gets close to her,” Wesley said.
Landon immediately arranged for Brooke to personally guard Gloria.
Once Gloria was stable after the surgery, he’d tell her the truth, then the whole family would face it together.
Once everything was settled, Kayla called. “Landon, what’s going on with that kid?“–
“Kayla, Mom’s sick. Can you come to the hospital?” Landon said.
“What?” Kayla exclaimed.
She shot up from her bed in shock.
“It’s nothing major, just some stomach discomfort. Wesley has everything under control. If you have time, just come over and see her,” Landon said.
“I’ll be right there!” Kayla replied.
As she hurried to get dressed, she called out, “Tuff! Tuff!”
Tuff had just returned from dropping Landen off at school. Hearing Kayla shouting, he rushed into the room. “What’s wrong?”
“My mom’s in the hospital. We need to go see her,” Kayla said.
Tuff looked confused and worried.
‘She was perfectly fine yesterday, How did she end up in the hospital all of a sudden? Did something happen to upset her?‘ he thought anxiously.
“Come on, help me find my shoes!” Kayla urged.
“Okay,” Tuff answered quickly.

The couple scrambled out the door and rushed to the hospital as fast as they could.
They were in such a rush that Kayla didn’t even have time to cover up the marks on her face. She just showed up at the hospital withara sagita
all.
After hearing about Gloria’s condition, Kayla felt like trying. “Doesn’t she get a check up every year? How could a tumor just show up out of nowhere.
“With Dr. Mitchell handling things, Gloria is going to be fine,” Tuff reassured her. “But about that kid -Landon, spill it. What’s the story?”
“He’s my dad’s kid with Aunt Shelby. His name is Jeffrey, and he’s got some mental issues. Right now, he’s staying at a sanatorium, Landon explaned.
Kayla was about to lose it. “Are you kidding me? Dad and Aunt Shelby? How could Dad ever go for someone like her?”
What she really wanted to say was, ‘How could he even sleep with her?‘
But that was way too harsh, so she bit her tongue at the last second.
“I don’t know. The only thing I do know is that Dad had no idea this kid even existed before he passed away,” Landon said.
By then, saying all this out loud wasn’t nearly as hard as it had been the previous night.
He couldn’t change what had happened–he just had to accept it and do whatever he could to keep the fallout to a minimum.
“I’m planning to go talk to Tristan and ask about what really happened back then. Kayla, do you want to come with me?” Landon asked.
Kayla took a deep breath. “Yeah, sure.”
“Tuff, Amy, I’m leaving things here to you guys,” Landon said.
“Okay.” Tuff and Amelia nodded.
Landon and Kayla hurried off.
Tuff was still in shock from all the drama. “Amelia, this is just next–level. Seriously, how wild can things get?”
“Totally,” Amelia agreed.
She suddenly remembered how, not long ago, Tuff had been all respectful to her. With a playful smile, she teased, “So, Tuff, the Prescott family is pretty rich and powerful too. Got any crazy family drama of your own?”
“Nope,” Tuff replied without hesitation. “The Prescott family is a small bunch–nothing complicated about us.”
Just as he finished speaking, a woman’s voice suddenly called out, “Tuff, when did you get married?”
“Holy crap!” Tuff blurted out, freezing on the spot.
Amelia turned around and saw a classy, sophisticated woman strutting
“Who is she?” Amelia narrowed her eyes, ‘Don’t tell me she’s after Kayla’s
over in high heels, every step oozing elegance.
man or something?”
“Oh, that’s just my mom’s goddaughter,” Tuff said/sounding a little helpless.
