Achill ran through Jennifer as Donald turned to leave. Once his back was turned, tears silently streamed down her face, unseen t
him.
At Horizonlead Group, after finishing his meeting, Jonathan returned to his office and was surprised to find that Donald had been waiting for him for three hours
Jonathan thought, “That was quick. I’d only reported Jennifer yesterday.”
With a reluctant gesture, Jonathan still let Donald into his office.
“If you’re here for Jennifer, you might as well leave. I’ve already reported her for falsifying my DNA test results. She’s unfit for her position,” Jonathan said.
“Jonathan, I know she was wrong. I’m begging you. Please calm down and give her this one chance,” Donald replied.
Jonathan continued, “It’s not that I won’t let it go. I helped her get that deputy director role, and if I could lift her up, I can as easily take her down. It’s all about her character.
“No matter whether Teresa threatened Jennifer or not, a truly ethical doctor would never compromise their professional integrity by falsifying records for anyone’s sake.”
Donald pressed his lips together and finally said, “You’re right, but Jennifer is pregnant.”
Jonathan was momentarily taken aback and then let out a cold, bitter laugh.
Jonathan thought, ‘Again? Christian’s wife got pregnant, so I let him off. When Cheryl got pregnant, I spared her too. Now, Donald’s wife is pregnant too? Who’s next to get pregnant?”
“Jonathan, I know you’ve helped me and Jennifer so much, and yet she repaid your kindness with betrayal. I have no right to ask you for anything, but I’m begging you to let her go this time.”
With those words, Donald collapsed to the ground.
Jonathan rubbed his temples in exasperation and wearily motioned for Donald to get up. He was tired of Donald always lowering himself like this to solve problems.
“This is as far as I’ll compromise. I won’t press charges, but she must resign and leave this field for good. After faking the DNA results for Mike and me, I can’t just let it go.”
“Alright, I understand,” Donald replied and promised he would make sure Jennifer resigned voluntarily.

At home, Teresa was unaware of the latest updates. After some thought, she called Jennifer to warn her that Jonathan planned to sue over the falsified DNA results and give her a heads–up.
Jennifer said with a sigh, “Donald went to see Jonathan. He said he’d drop the lawsuit against me, but only if I resign volun.
Jennifer paused, her words hanging in the air,

“I’m at your place. Let’s talk in person,” Jennifer added.
After the call ended, Jennifer came up in the elevator. Teresa opened the door and, seeing her haggard face and prim reluctantly stepped aside to let her in.
Jennifer handed Teresa a bank card with 30 thousand dollars to cover her medical bills from the hospitalization and partially compensate for Teresa’s Porsche,
“I know your Porsche is worth much more than 30 thousand dollars,” Jennifer said, “but the police haven’t found the hit–and–run driver yet. Once they do, I’ll ensure you receive the rest of the compensation.”
Teresa averted her gaze and said, “You’ve already suffered enough from the miscarriage. I’ll get myself a new car,”
“I don’t want to resign,” Jennifer murmured, lowering her head.
Jennifer lowered her head and said quietly, “I’ve consulted a lawyer. If you’re willing to testify that you threatened and coerced me into falsifying that report for you, I’d most likely be acquitted.”
“You’re going to pin all the blame on me?” Teresa asked, her heart plummeting. Every grievance she’d corked up for so long finally
burst free.
Teresa continued, “I shielded you from Jonathan, stayed silent while he accused me of forcing that lie, and now you’ll sacrifice me to save your job?
“You forged the report, hid the switch, blocked me from confessing to Mike, and now you want to wash your hands clean and leave me to take the fall? Do you think I’m such a pushover?”
