Chapter 14: Tonight, Ella Must Apologize
Ella lowered her head and resolutely said, “I won’t marry.”
When she was at her most helpless, Liam had given her a glimmer of hope. Like a beam of light, he
had illuminated her life.
For years, she had viewed Liam through rose–colored glasses.
Even when he hurt her repeatedly, as long as Ella remembered that day outside the restroom–his black and white school uniform, the snowstorm behind him, and the scarf he had thrown at her–she
would convince herself to forgive him.
Again and again, she tolerated, again and again, she compromised.
But Ella forgot that people change. That light could shift and illuminate someone else.
Stella let out a sigh of relief. “I’m glad you figured it out. You always had too deep an obsession with
him.”
She gently stroked the scar on Ella’s ankle, filled with guilt. “I’m sorry, Ella, I wasn’t able to protect
you.”
Ella shook her head.
During that time, the Hewitt family was in turmoil, and Stella had broken her leg in an accident during a performance. She had been too overwhelmed herself to help Ella.
The two of them were deeply immersed in their conversation, and Finn quietly closed the door as he left. He went to the parking lot where Marcus was sitting in the car, smoking.
When Marcus saw Finn approaching, he raised an eyebrow. “Well?”
“Miss Rossi is surprised. It seems… she doesn’t plan on marrying you suddenly,” Finn spoke candidly.
Marcus stretched his long legs, leaning casually against the seat back, and chuckled lightly. “I figured
‘as much.”
Ella’s personality wouldn’t easily allow her to agree to a sudden marriage without some external

push.
As for that external push…
Marcus’s gaze deepened.
He extended his arm, casually resting it on the car window, with faint wisps of smoke rising
between his fingers.
Finn sat in the driver’s seat, glancing at Marcus’s expression before speaking. “I think, boss, you
might as well just tell Miss Rossi your true identity…”
Marcus raised his chin, signaling for him to continue.
“You should just tell Miss Rossi that you are Liam’s uncle. If she marries you, she can walk all over the capital…
How great would that be? And in the future, when you meet Liam, he’ll have to call her ‘Aunt‘… With
just that status, you’d make Liam feel inferior, he won’t dare to reach for her anymore.”
“After that, no one–whether it’s the Rossi family or anyone else–can bully her anymore. What a
temptation! If I were a woman, I’d…”
Finn’s excitement grew, almost forgetting himself.
He lightly wiped his lips with the back of his hand, swallowing the rest of his words.
Marcus smiled slightly. “Not a bad idea.”
Finn grinned, rubbing the back of his head, but quickly, Marcus shifted his tone. “But you don’t
understand her.”
Finn blinked innocently. “Huh?”
Ella had been oppressed by the Rossi family for so long. If he suddenly revealed his identity, it might
scare her off.
Marcus wasn’t willing to take that risk.

He fiddled with the lighter in his hand, thin smoke rising, obscuring the expression on his face.
At 8 PM, outside a private club, Liam and Natalie got out of the car.
Natalie felt inexplicably nervous. Her hands were clasped in front of her, rubbing back and forth
anxiously.
Originally, not many people knew she was with Liam.
However, after last night’s birthday banquet, it seemed she had been exposed.
Natalie was a bit scared.
The Byrne family was powerful, and many people were eager to associate with them.
She was afraid that Marcus’s invitation to see her was to make her leave Liam.
After all, she was a fake young lady, unworthy of the high status of the Byrne family.
She had heard of Marcus’s ruthless methods.
He had spent ten years at the police academy, known for his fierce aura and rarely smiling in public.
A year ago, he retired from the police academy and took over the Byrne Corporation.
With his own power, he made the other three branches of the Byrne family subsidiary, consolidating the real power in his hands.
This type of man was no stranger to manipulation.
The Byrne family, as a prestigious family, was highly sensitive to scandals.
If Marcus really wanted to purify the family and make her leave Liam…
She feared she would be abandoned.
The more she thought about it, the colder her heart felt.
She looked at Liam with teary eyes. “Liam, I’m a little scared… What if your uncle breaks us up?”

Liam patted her shoulder to comfort her, softly reassuring her, “Don’t worry, I won’t leave you.”
Natalie’s eyes filled with tears, looking pitiful. “Really?”
Liam’s heart melted. He grabbed her hand, softly urging, “When we see my uncle later, whatever he says, just go along with it. Once he calms down, it’ll be fine.”
Last night’s incident had caused quite a stir.
Liam guessed his uncle had invited them over to warn them.
At most, they would just get a scolding.
Natalie nodded obediently.
Liam remembered something and asked, “Has Ella returned yet?”
In the past, she would’ve come back by now, and at most, she would’ve been the one to apologize.
But this time, it had been a day, and she was still holding her ground.
Natalie’s expression stiffened. Hearing Liam mention Ella, she felt uncomfortable, though her face remained neutral.
“She hasn’t come back yet.”
She turned her head to look at Liam, biting her lip, then added, “Maybe she’s still angry with me. Once this is over, I’ll go and invite her back.”
“Invite?”
Liam lightly sneered. “You’re giving her face? If she wants to come back, let her. If she doesn’t, so be
it.”
Natalie bent her lips slightly, her eyes glimmering with an unreadable light.
She wrapped her arm around his and added, “Ella is just being a little too stubborn. Afterward, when she comes to find you, don’t make things difficult for her.”

Liam snorted. “Look at her attitude. She doesn’t want to admit she still cares, yet she uses our engagement to threaten me. Ella is really getting above herself.”
He was certain that, at most, by tonight, Ella would come to apologize to him.
