Chapter 8: “Scheming, Isn’t It Just to Attract My Attention?”
Because of the rain, the visibility was poor, and Liam couldn’t clearly see the car’s license plate, so
the car drove away.
Natalie walked over, “Liam, what’s wrong?”
Liam withdrew his gaze.
Natalie, with her slender hands holding the umbrella, worried he might get wet, held the umbrella
over his head while she herself soaked in the rain.
For a moment, Liam seemed to see Ella’s shadow on Natalie.
Ella had done the same foolish thing before.
Liam shook his head. He didn’t love Ella, why was he suddenly thinking about her?
Seeing Natalie trembling from the cold, he took off his suit and draped it over her shoulders.
Natalie softly said, “When Ella left the Rossi family so decisively, do you think she really wants to break off the engagement with you?”
“Impossible.”
Liam casually hugged Natalie’s shoulder, “As long as she’s still Ella, she can’t leave me. She’s
scheming like this, doesn’t she just want to attract my attention?”
“But she seems really angry tonight.” Natalie pursed her lips, “Why not make a call and ask where
she went?”
Liam waved his hand, unconcerned, “What’s there to call? When she thinks it through, she’ll
apologize to me.”
Liam had never proactively called Ella.
It was always Ella who took the initiative.

No matter who was right or wrong, it was always her who apologized.
Such small matters, Ella would be upset for a day or two, and then she would come and make up
with him.
Liam had long gotten used to it.
The weather was heavy and dark.
Outside the window, the thunderstorm was intense, and the sky seemed to tear open a huge hole.

Finn looked at the unconscious woman lying in bed and whispered, “Miss Rossi has a concussion. The doctor said she might need to stay in the hospital for another couple of days.”
Marcus’s jaw clenched, he didn’t respond, his gaze falling on Ella’s ankle.
Finn quickly glanced, lowering his head, relaying the doctor’s words, “It was injured by porcelain fragments. The treatment was delayed, and the scar might not go away, but the bone should be fine.”
Marcus’s thin lips tightened, his deep eyes showed no emotion, but it was hard not to feel the cold
aura he exuded.
The girl lying in bed was in a pitiful state. Although her soaked clothes had been changed, her frail
body lost the vitality a young girl should have.
There was still a slap mark on her face, from who knows who, on her overly pale face, so striking.
It must have hurt a lot.
Marcus took out a cigarette from his pocket, biting it at the corner of his lips, preparing to light it.
But he stopped himself, afraid it would disturb Ella.
“Mr. Caleb Donovan is still waiting for you,” Finn looked at the time and quietly reminded him, “It’s getting late, if you don’t hurry, the meeting will be over.”
“Let it be, I’m not going,” Marcus sat down at the bedside, “I’ll stay here tonight, I’m not going

anywhere.”
Finn’s eyes flickered. He was about to speak when Marcus’s phone rang from his pocket.
Seeing Ella was not sleeping peacefully, Marcus squeezed his phone, walked out into the hallway to
answere
On the other end, Caleb’s loud voice immediately came through, “Marcus, what kind of behavior is
this? You suddenly leave without a word? If someone didn’t know, they’d think you were taken away by some woman.”
Marcus smiled slightly, “Yeah, I was taken away by a woman. Are you jealous?”
“What kind of dream are you having?”
Caleb laughed a couple of times and teased over the phone, “You really think after being a soldier for
a few years, the country will just hand you a wife? Marcus, wake up. Liam, come on. It’s raining
hard tonight, but don’t let it soak your brain too.”
Marcus bit the cigarette at the corner of his lips, not responding.
He and Caleb grew up together, so the latter dared to joke like this.
“Hurry up and come over, we’re waiting for you.” Caleb urged, “Oh, by the way, your nephew is here
too.”
Marcus’s eyes suddenly narrowed dangerously, “Liam?”
“Yeah, tonight’s events at the Rossi family have spread, and your nephew’s mental fortitude is impressive. Even with everything going on, he still has the time to run here and drink.”
A shadow rose in Marcus’s eyes, he curled his lips, but there was no smile, only a coldness that was terrifying.
“Wait for me, I’ll be there soon.”
