Chapter 15

The Narrator’s voice finally came through. [While no one was paying attention, Evelyn made a phone call and brought

Beatrice over.

[After hearing Evelyn’s words, Beatrice stormed in, furious, grabbed Quinlyn, and exposed all the terrible things Quinlyn had done. People’s attitude toward Quinlyn started to change.]

Quinlyn froze for a second. That was when she realized some parts of the story could shift based on what she had changed.

Thinking about what Evelyn and Beatrice were about to do, she couldn’t help but pout her lips.

Sensing Quinlyn’s emotions, the usually stingy Narrator reported the progress it hadn’t mentioned earlier. [Fate Change Progress +5. Current Fate Change Progress: 20%.]

Quinlyn noticed the change and thanked it silently.

Just as Zachary was still struggling inside, a sharp voice rang out, drawing everyone’s attention. “Quinlyn, how could you be so selfish?”

Everyone turned to look and saw Beatrice charging forward in a tight, ill-fitting dress.

She shoved her way through the crowd and went straight for Quinlyn, reaching out to grab her hair. “I raised you for over ten years, and this is how you treat me?”

Beatrice’s movements were rough, and she was used to hard labor. The elegant ladies around her couldn’t stop her, and the men looked toward Graham instead.

Most of the guests were Graham’s business partners, and they all knew quite a bit about his family. They weren’t sure if this whole thing was planned by him.

After watching for a moment, they noticed how calm Graham seemed. He only gave a weak “stop” from the edge of the crowd and did nothing else.

Seeing this, everyone instantly understood. In their hearts, they couldn’t help but admire how cold and calculating Graham

was.

Meanwhile, when Beatrice rushed over, Quinlyn quickly dodged. But with her long hair down and wearing heels and a dress, she wasn’t as quick as Beatrice, a furious mom ready to do anything for her son.

Somehow, Beatrice managed to grab a handful of Quinlyn’s hair. The annoyance Quinlyn had been holding in suddenly rose to the surface. She clenched her fists, not struggling or moving.

Then Yasin suddenly reached out and grabbed Beatrice’s wrist. His grip wasn’t that strong, but it was enough to stop her from moving.

“Who are you?” Beatrice snapped.

Yasin thought for a second and said, “Her co-worker.”

Beatrice froze for a moment, clearly thrown off by the sharp look in his eyes. But she didn’t forget her goal. She ignored Yasin and started yelling at Quinlyn, tears in her voice.

“You’re not my real daughter, but have I ever treated you badly?” she cried. “Look at yourself. You never studied, always hung out with that street punk.

“I used to blame myself for not raising you right. But now you’re back with your real family, and you’re still the same?”

Chapter 15

Beatrice was a strong talker, sharpened by years of business. In just two minutes, she spilled out every bad thing Quinlyn had ever done.

She made Quinlyn sound lazy, spoiled, and hopeless, saying that she even tried to steal money and run away with Herbert. If Yarden hadn’t stopped her, no one would know where she would be now.

To make it worse, she said she’d call Herbert right then and there. Then she pointed at Yasin, saying Quinlyn was always messing around with different guys-and Yasin was just the latest one.

At that moment, Quinlyn’s face turned cold.

She said coolly, “Mom, I call you that because you didn’t let me starve to death. But are you sure you want to keep going like this?”

Beatrice paused, then blew up. “Are you threatening me? You’ve been lying since you were little. Don’t think I don’t know what trick you’re about to pull. Go on, say it in front of everyone. Let’s hear what lie you’ve got this time.”

Beatrice really was smart-smarter than Graham and Evelyn. With a line like that, no matter what Quinlyn said, people would think she was lying.

If she wasn’t so clever, she wouldn’t have come up with the plan to switch Quinlyn and Yalena when they were born.

Quinlyn suddenly laughed. “Oh? Sounds like you know me well. Alright then, go ahead. Call Herbert.”

“I will!” Beatrice snapped. She’d met Herbert before. Guys like him-cheap thugs-she’d seen a thousand times.

Just then, Graham stepped in, trying to play peacemaker. He said something about how sorry he was for the drama and that if the guests didn’t mind, maybe they could head home for now. He promised to visit and apologize in person another day.

But before he could finish, Quinlyn smiled and said, “Oh no, don’t go yet. The show’s not over.”

Logan also spoke up. “She’s right. This is about a young woman’s reputation. It’s best to clear things up.”

While he spoke, he kept glancing at Yasin.

Yasin noticed and flashed a toothy grin at him. But the smile didn’t reach his eyes. Combined with that sharp gaze of his, the look was downright chilling.

Herbert was a street punk, so Beatrice figured he probably wasn’t even awake yet. Sure enough, when he picked up, he started cursing, clearly annoyed at being woken up.

Beatrice almost yelled back but held it in. “This is Quinlyn’s mom. I’m calling to ask about your relationship with her.”

Normally, Herbert would’ve proudly said they were dating. But this time, he suddenly went quiet.

A few seconds later, he said seriously, “Mrs. Chappell, please stop picking on Quinlyn.”

Then he added, “I was studying until five in the morning. I just went to sleep. Please don’t call me again. If you see Quinlyn, tell her I’m gonna study hard and try to catch up with her.”

Then he hung up.

After hearing what Herbert said, Quinlyn decided to forgive him. After all, he was just a messed-up kid. If he really started working hard, that would be a good thing.

Beatrice, on the other hand, was furious. She felt like she’d been slapped in the face in front of everyone.

She stared wide-eyed at Quinlyn and snapped, “You called Herbert ahead of time, didn’t you? I knew it-you’re full of schemes! You’ll do anything for money.”

Her screaming and Quinlyn’s calmness made a sharp contrast.

Maybe yelling wasn’t enough for her. Beatrice suddenly lunged forward, trying to scratch Quinlyn’s face. That was the last straw. Quinlyn gave her a cold look.

The only reason she hadn’t fought back yet was because, deep down, she still had a bit of old affection for Beatrice.

She remembered how, when she was little, she once reached for a scone on the table, and Beatrice handed her one. It was the smallest and the most broken one, but it was sweet.

With a smile, Quinlyn asked, “Are you scared I might actually get engaged to Zachary? What if I said I will?”
