Chapter 7

“Ten years ago Vivian didn’t want you, and she still doesn’t now. She’s mine until she dies-every inch of her belongs to me after all these years. You’re nothing, Peter, and you had the nerve to hide her from me.”

Peter, caught off guard by Lucas’s punch, instantly flared with rage. He pulled me behind him and lunged forward, grappling with Lucas.

They were evenly matched, trading brutal blows.

After they both kicked each other and collapsed to the ground, I rushed over.

Lucas, lying on the ground, reached out his arms toward me, only to watch helplessly as I went to Peter instead.

“Stop fighting. Are you hurt anywhere? We should go to the hospital.”

Lucas’s eyes filled with disbelief. He’d always thought I was just throwing a tantrum-he’d never imagined I would actually abandon him.

“Vivian, he hurt me. Don’t you see?”

I helped Peter up and gave Lucas a cold glance.

“I see. What’s that got to do with me?”

Those simple words pierced Lucas’s heart.

He quickly stood up, blocking our path.

The pain in his eyes was almost overflowing, but his tone still carried the arrogance he’d grown accustomed to over the years.

“Stop this tantrum, Vivian. Come home with me like a good girl. I’ll let these three months of you disappearing slide.”

I gave him a cold look, a mocking smile playing on my lips.

“Go back? I already divorced you. I left the divorce papers at the villa for you-didn’t you see them?”

Lucas’s eyes filled with urgency and irritation. “Vivian, I didn’t agree to the divorce. You’ll be my wife for life.”

His words made me laugh. “You didn’t agree?”

“Didn’t you sign the divorce papers yourself? I left with nothing-didn’t take a penny from the Sinclair family. Stop making me sick.”

Lucas stepped forward to grab my hand, but Peter blocked him.

He glared at Peter furiously. “This is between me and Vivian. What’s it to you?”

“You’re some orphan who picked through trash. If the Warren family hadn’t picked you up like a stray dog, you think you’d ever be in our league? Go crawl back to your garbage dump.”

“She only has eyes for me. No matter how awful I am, I’m the one she loves. You don’t even have a chance to worm your way in.”

Lucas’s words made me freeze. Seeing the flash of pain in Peter’s eyes, I felt a pang of sympathy.

Grandma never liked Lucas.

Ten years ago, when she found out I was dating him, she took both my hand and Peter’s, making it clear she wanted us to get married.

I was completely resistant to that arrangement back then. Not only did I harshly refuse in front of Peter, but I also went to warn him afterward, telling him not to sweet talk Grandma-that Lucas was the one I loved.

Remembering what Peter said that night, my heart suddenly softened, and I impulsively took his hand.

“He doesn’t need to worm his way in. We’re already together.”

Lucas’s face darkened, his eyes looking like they could shoot flames.

“Vivian, don’t make me angry. Come home with me.”

I looked at Lucas for a long time, then sighed.

“All these years-weren’t you tired of pretending?”

Lucas’s face suddenly went pale. He stared at me for a long moment, unable to speak.

“Not only pretending not to love me, but constantly hurting and belittling me, isolating me from everyone, just wanting me to revolve around you.”

“Lucas, I loved you for ten years, but you used five years to drain all my passion. Just go. We have no future together.”

After saying this, I didn’t look at him again. I pulled Peter inside and closed the door.

Once inside, Peter held my hand tightly and wouldn’t let go.

“Vivian, were you serious about what you said just now?”

I was stunned for a moment before nodding. “If you don’t mind my past with Lucas, we could try dating.”
