Chapter 9

Soon, a video went viral online.

An old woman with silver hair knelt on the ground, crying her heart out as she accused the Garnier family of hiring a hitman.

She claimed she had once been Thiago’s lover. To protect the Garnier family’s reputation, he gave her a large sum of money and forced her to disappear.

At the time, she was six months pregnant. She had no choice but to raise the child on her own.

But accidents kept happening. It was then she realized-Thiago had never intended to let her

She tried everything, but there was no way to fight the Garnier family. To protect her daughter, she sent her away and went into hiding.

A few days ago, a kind stranger reached out and offered support. That gave her the courage to come forward again. She even reunited with her daughter.

Sharon knelt behind her, eyes swollen and red. She admitted she’d approached William with revenge in mind—but fell for him all over again. To stay by his side, she’d done many things she now regretted.

Seeing how much her mother had suffered finally opened her eyes. She was ready to face the consequences.

The revelation quickly became Arizona’s top trending topics.

The already-crumbling Garnier Group was as good as dead. Outraged citizens launched boycotts, and influencers camped outside the Garnier’s residence, vowing to get justice.

Every public statement from the Garnier Group fell flat. One by one, their official accounts were shut down.

Brandon and I took the chance to pull double returns on our investments in the Garnier Group.

I didn’t remember what day it was, exactly. But one day, I got a call from an unknown number.

There was silence on the other end. Just as I was about to hang up, I heard William say, softly, “I’m sorry.

“Cella, I know I was wrong. I miss you so much.

“I regret it every second of the day. Every time I see your photo or hear your name, it hurts so much I can’t even breathe.

“I know you’ll never forgive me, but please, don’t forget me. Please.”

I stayed quiet for a long time.

William had never been this humble in front of me.

If this had been before, I would’ve forgiven him without hesitation. I would’ve said yes to anything he asked.

But now, all I felt was nothing but disgust.

“William, I don’t love you anymore.

“I’m starting a new life. I’m never looking back.”

I heard him break down.

“I didn’t know Sharon got close to me on purpose.

“On your birthday, I already told her to cancel the game. If I’d told you sooner, would you have…”

“No,” I cut him off.

“Canceling the game doesn’t matter, William. You still would’ve hurt me for her without a second thought.

“All these years, you’re the one who owes me.

“We’re done.”

I hung up and blocked his number.

The police soon took both Thiago and William into custody. The investigation was long and messy.

Brandon refused to reveal he was the Jallot family’s adopted son. Left with no choice, I returned to the Jallot Group to clean up the Garnier family’s mess.

A month later, Thiago took his own life while in detention.

William and Sharon were arrested. They’d be behind bars for years.

I stopped caring a long time ago.

Five

years later, Brandon and I were out having dinner with our daughter. That was when I saw someone familiar.

He’d lost that wild arrogance. He blended so well into the crowd I almost didn’t recognize him.

The moment he saw me, he ducked into a corner.

Brandon followed my gaze, puzzled. “What is it?”

I smiled and shook my head. “It’s nothing-just someone I totally forgot about ages ago.”
