My eyes widened in disbelief.
Two months? How was that even possible?
Forget about Allison being pregnant–two months ago, Myles was still serving in the military and couldn’t have possibly returned.
Seeing my shocked expression, Allison lifted her chin smugly. “I told you, the baby in my belly is Myles‘.”
She gently caressed her stomach. “Don’t worry, baby. I’ll make sure you come into this world with dignity.”
The loving smile on her face sent chills down my spine.
Allison, that lunatic! In my past life, she stole my marriage and destroyed my family. In this life, she still won’t leave me alone!
Since she showed no mercy, I wouldn’t either!
I handed the police Myles‘ recent military service records, then began carefully recalling anything suspicious.
The child in Allison’s belly was clearly fishy.
Thinking of that bracelet that could steal people’s romantic fate,
I remembered Daisy Hanson, the witch who was once popular in our village.
Back then, strange things often happened in the village, so people would ask her to exorcise demons and evil spirits.
Later, under the authorities‘ crackdown, these superstitious activities gradually disappeared, and Daisy vanished from people’s sight.
With this thought, I didn’t hesitate and immediately headed up the mountain.
I don’t know if it was my imagination, but despite the exhausting climb, when I reached the summit, I felt an inexplicable sense of relief, as if something that had bound me for so long had suddenly been released.
Just as I was wondering what to do next, an elderly woman with white hair and a kind smile suddenly emerged from the woods.
Seeing me, she showed no surprise, only gave me a meaningful look and said calmly, “Follow me.”
I knew this must be the legendary Daisy.
Suppressing my questions, I silently followed behind her.
She led me to an ancient–looking house.
Before I could explain why I’d come, she spoke first: “I know why you’re here. Don’t worry, when that child is born, everything will come to light.”
I was still uneasy and wanted to say something.
Daisy merely glanced at me and interrupted: “You are blessed by heaven, which is why I’m making an exception to help you.”
With that, she placed an object in my palm, then pushed me out the door.
A fierce wind swept over me, making it impossible to keep my
eyes open.
When I opened them again, the wooden house on the
mountaintop had vanished without a trace, leaving only a path leading down the mountain.
I finally understood why, despite years of police searches on the mountain, they had never found any trace of Daisy.
Clutching the object in my hand, I felt an unprecedented sense of peace.
Since heaven had given me a chance to live again, I would seize it and take firm control of my destiny.
