Once I realised 4

Once I realised 4

Everyone knew there was this crazy chick

who was so obsessed with Danny that she

actually spiked his drink.

I sent him a ton of apologies and bought a

bunch of gifts for my sister to take to him.

く

He finally replied a few days later.

“I’m not mad. It’s okay to just say how you

feel. You didn’t need to do that.”

But I was already on a train to Chicago when I

got that message.

“Thank you. And I’m sorry. But don’t worry, I

won’t force you to like me.”

After sending that, I snapped the SIM card in

half, switched to a new number I’d gotten

ahead of time.

Before I left, I told my sister she could text

me, but to not say anything about Danny.

I didn’t want to be the villain anymore.

く

I wanted to leave the past behind for good.

I got hired full-time, which meant I’d made it,

barely, in the big city.

I thought I’d never see Danny again.

But then Danny got a sweet promotion to the

company I was working at.

The day we welcomed “Mr. Sinclair,” I was

frozen, watching him come in, and then

watching him go to the office.

Thank God he didn’t see me.

My coworkers were swooning, “Finally, a hot

boss who doesn’t have a beer belly!”

く

Then they nudged me, “Girl, he’s totally your

type!”

I snapped out of it and nodded numbly,

“Yeah, he is.

وو

My supervisor smacked my head, “Don’t get

any ideas. Rumor has it some woman spiked

Mr. Sinclair’s drink, and he hates people who

play dirty.”

My heart clenched. All the most embarrassing

memories came flooding back, lashing me

over and over.

My coworkers whispered, “How could anyone

be so trashy!”

I wanted to dig a hole and hide.
