Chapter 584
Chapter 584
Both Catherine and Cecilia nodded. “Cathy, since Werner has already said all this, why not give him a chance to turn over a new leaf? At our age, we shouldn’t give others a reason to gossip.”
Cathy remained silent. As her elder sisters, Catherine and Cecilia, continued, “If this happens again, we won’t tolerate it. We won’t let Werner off easily.
“For the sake of our family, and especially for Donald and our still–unmarried Cheryl, why don’t you just go back with Werner?”
After a long, heavy silence, Cathy finally gave in and went back with Donald and the others.
Werner was driving while Donald and Cathy sat in the backseat, with Donald holding his mother’s hand.
Donald said, “Mom, I’m sorry. I’m also at fault. I shouldn’t have kept this from you. Do you think I should tell Cheryl about this? If you say so, I’ll be the one to tell her.”
Cathy sighed wearily. “Let it be…”
Donald felt a pang of sadness. He knew Cathy still cared deeply for their family.
Spotting a nearby pastry shop that Cathy liked, Donald got out of the car and bought her some pastries.
There were a few people ahead in line. When the person in front finished their purchase and turned around, Donald was surprised to see it was Sanford.
Sanford hadn’t expected to see Donald here. He greeted him casually, “Donald, I didn’t expect to run into you here.”
Werner also got out of the car when he saw Sanford. “Hey, kid, what are you doing here?”
Sanford averted his gaze and retorted, “Why can’t I be in Nareigh? It’s not like you own this street, is it?”
Werner looked at Donald and said, “Donald, get back in the car first.” Without a second thought, Donald got back into the car with the pastries.
Werner then asked Sanford, “What brings you to Nareigh? Shouldn’t you be back in Shaville taking care of your mother, Liora?”
Sanford sneered, “Werner, what are you so concerned about my mother for?”
Werner said, “Sanford, haven’t I told you your mother and I were classmates? Now that she’s gravely ill, how could I not be concerned?”
Sanford smirked. “So, should I thank you? Who knew there was actually someone in the Lynn family who cared about my mom?”
Werner let out a weary sigh. “You’d better head back to Shaville soon. Keep the money I gave you earlier, and just be sensible and take good care of your
mother.”
Sanford frowned. He thought, ‘What gives this outsider the right to judge whether I’m behaving properly or not?‘
Sanford shot him a cold look. “Don’t bother yourself with my business. So, I hear you’re the one who cheated on your wife? Maybe you should take a good look in the mirror first.”
Werner’s heart skipped a beat. ‘Who told him this?‘ he thought. Sanford offered no explanation and quickly walked away.
Werner stared at Sanford’s retreating figure, lost in thought, until Donald’s voice abruptly snapped him back to reality.
Once they were in the car, Cathy sneered at the windshield, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “So that was your brother’s love child. W’s he doing in Nareigh?”
“Don’t ask me.” Werner started the car, clearly annoyed.
Cathy sneered, “Looks like you two had a nice little chat. Since you’re so concerned about him, why don’t you just go take care of him instead?”

“Can you just stop already?” Werner snapped impatiently. “I’ve already groveled and begged you at Catherine’s house. What more do you want from me?”
“Dad, Mom’s just asking. Could you try to
be a little nicer?” Donald said.
Werner pursed his lips and said nothing more.
After dropping Cathy off at home, Donald wanted to stay and keep her company. But Cathy told him, “Go back to work. Don’t let what happened between me and Werner affect your job.”
Donald said, “My job’s fine. Family is what matters most.”
