Cathy remained silent. She walked over to Jennifer, her lips twisting in a wry, self–mocking smile. “You were right.” After uttering this baffling remark, she walked straight out.
Werner urgently grabbed Cathy’s arm. “Cathy, what are you doing? What’s wrong? What happened?”
Cathy ripped her arm free from his grasp and snapped, “You dare ask me what’s wrong? You know damn well what you did! I’m bringing Cheryl back, and we’re settling this once and for all.”
“What the hell are you talking about?” Werner snapped.
“Am I talking nonsense?” Cathy’s voice trembled with rage. “Werner, if you really wanted to hide it, you should’ve deleted everything. Liam kept messaging you, and you even had Donald lie to me that Liam had thyroid cancer.
“Do you really think I’m stupid? Or do you all think I’m just that gullible? I’ve been fooled by you for so many years. I thought I knew you well, I trusted you completely, and this is how you treat me? Let’s get a divorce.”
Werner’s eyelid twitched as he hurried to defend himself. “I swear that I’ve never done anything to betray you, never! It was just a tiny slip–up, nothing
serious.”
He said defensively, “Come on, I just made the kind of mistake
every man makes.”
“Then maybe I should just go out and find myself a man, too,” Cathy snapped. “You’ve lost all shame, don’t care what the kids think, and you’re still making excuses. How did I end up married to such a spineless coward?”
Cathy was shouting loudly. Werner grabbed her arm and hissed, “Keep your voice down. Donald and Jennifer are right here. Let me save some face, will
you?”
“Mom-” Donald tried to explain. 、
“Stop calling me Mom,” Cathy snapped. “You’re no son of mine, not after you helped your father lie to me.”
“This isn’t Donald’s fault. He never wanted any of this. You two can sort this out yourselves. We’re leaving now.” Jennifer said firmly, taking Donald’s arm
as she turned to go.
Donald released Jennifer’s hand. He turned to Cathy, his voice trembling. “Mom, I’m truly sorry. I wasn’t taking Dad’s side. I was just terrified of how you’d react when you found out. This is my fault. It’s not that I didn’t consider your feelings.
“The whole way back from Shaville, I was falling apart too. I couldn’t believe Dad would do something like this at his age. I feel exactly the same as you do. Whatever you decide now, I’ll stand by you.”
Cathy remained silent. Right at that moment, she couldn’t bear to face anyone.
With Donald and Jennifer gone, only Werner and Cathy remained in the house.
A chilling calm had settled over Cathy. With no tears left to shed, there was only one thing left to say. She finally said, “Divorce.”
Since Werner was the one who had wronged her, the house would be hers. As the cheater, he’d walk away with nothing.
Werner let out a helpless sigh. “Fine, I’m sorry. I said I’m sorry, alright? We’ve been together for over twenty years, and you’re out of a molehill over this. I was drunk that night. Liam practically dragged me into it.”

Cathy glared at Werner and snapped, “You blame everything on Liam. Did he undress you, too? After all these years of marriage, you always made me put up with Irene, never caring about my feelings.
“I let that slide, fine. But it is a matter of principle. Do you still expect me to just swallow it? I can’t, and I won’t! I’m not like you, completely devoid of principles.”

Cathy jabbed a finger at the door, her voice shaking with fury. “Get out! Don’t come back tonight. First thing tomorrow morning, we’re gang to the courthouse. We’re getting a divorce.” This divorce was non–negotiable for her.
