Chapter 594
“This is from my retirement fund. There’s 60 thousand in it. You should take this too.” Werner handed her the new bank card.
Liora shook her head, refusing, but Werner still placed the bank card on her bedside table.
“Please take it, it’ll ease my conscience,” he said. “You need the money now, especially in Shaville where hospital bills are sky–high. Just accept it, please.”
“I’m leaving today. I don’t know when I’ll be able to visit you again, or if I’ll ever come back. Take care of yourself, okay? Let Sanford take good care of you.” With that, Werner moved to leave, his steps weighed down.
Sanford returned to the hospital room with food, only to find Liora already asleep. He decided not to wake her.
When Liora woke up, she saw Sanford holding the bank card. “Mom, you’re awake,” Sanford said. “Is this from Werner again?”
Liora sighed weakly, “Sanford, when you have time, just give the card back to him, okay?”
Sanford asked, “Mom, why is he giving you money? Does he have a crush on you, or is there something you two are hiding from me?”
Liora sighed exasperatedly. “Sanford, what nonsense are you talking about?”
Sanford said, “When I got back, he happened to be coming downstairs. I saw him.”
Liora’s heart tightened, but she kept her expression calm. “Oh?” she responded casually. “And then?”
“I saw him buying cigarettes, smoking with tears in his eyes. When I asked what was wrong, he just patted my shoulder and told me to take good care of
you.”
Liora remained silent, her expression unreadable.
Sanford raised an eyebrow at his mom. “There isn’t really something going on between you two, is there?”
“Don’t be ridiculous,” Liora chuckled wryly. “I don’t have feelings for him.”
“Oh, okay then. Just stay away from him. That guy’s a two–timing jerk. He’s married but still chasing other women, and now he’s still hung up on you. Trust me, he’s no good.”
“He’s seeing other women?” Liora asked, her voice full of disbelief.
“I went back to Nareigh for a bit. He seemed decent enough on the surface, but who knew he was that kind of guy behind the scenes?” Sanford shrugged. “Not our business anyway.”
Sanford didn’t catch the flicker of unreadable emotion in Liora’s eyes.
The test results for Werner and Liam came back. Liam was HIV–positive, meaning he was infected with HIV. He had absolutely nothing left to smile about.
Werner suddenly realized why Liam had looked so off that day, a chill ran down his spine. Thank goodness he hadn’t drunk with him. His test results were clean, no HIV. Still, Werner couldn’t shake his unease.
Being the coward he was, he immediately went to another hospital for a second test.
While Werner was at the hospital, Cathy went to the bank, hoping to withdraw their retirement fund early, only to be told that Werner had already taken out the entire 60 thousand.
He had withdrawn it just two days before he left for Shaville. At that moment, Cathy’s world came crashing down. Just when she was about to let go of

her suspicions about Werner, he pulled this stunt.
That 60 thousand in the fund was their agreed–upon retirement nest egg. They’d promised that no one would touch it unless Donald or Cheryl needed
the money.
150 thousand in total. Cathy wasn’t stupid, and she thought, ‘Who did he suddenly give all that money to? Was he transferring assets? Or was it for his
mistress?‘
At that moment, her suspicions about him flared anew, reaching an unbearable peak.
