Chapter 593
Cathy declined. “Thave a flight this afternoon.”
Werner took Cathy to the airport, his face stern as he lectured her. “Stop making a public spectacle of yourself. I’ve told you I’m not seeing ether woman Why can’t you just believe me?”
Cathy asked, “Tben tell me, where did the 100 thousand really go? Who did you give it to?”
Werner said, “I lent it to a friend. You wouldn’t know them anyway. They’ll pay me back soon enough.”
Cathy pressed, “How soon is ‘soon‘?”
“I’ll definitely pay it back before New Year, so stop nagging already. My flight’s tomorrow. I’ll be home soon.”
Cathy eyed him doubtfully. Werner flung the hospital report at her and snapped, “Open your eyes and take a good look! I just had my blood tested.
“If I went after other women now, I’d be a dead man. Stop doubting me already. I don’t want to make a public spectacle of myself while I’m away.
Cathy thought bitterly, ‘As if I’d want to embarrass myself out of town. I’ve been trying so hard to find irrefutable proof that he’s seeing another woman, but I’ve come up empty–handed.
‘Could I just be imagining things?‘ With these doubts weighing on her, Cathy had no choice but to leave.
With Cathy finally gone, Werner could finally breathe easily and rushed straight back to the hospital to find Liora.
Liora had just undergone chemotherapy and was exceptionally frail. Through the glass door, Werner saw her gaunt, skeletal figure, just skin and bones, and a pang of sorrow twisted in his chest.
Just as he was about to step forward, he spotted Sanford bustling around.
He had no choice but to hide out of sight and wait until Sanford went downstairs to grab some food. Only then did Werner finally slip into Liora’s hospital
room.
Liora froze for a split second at the sight of Werner, her eyes instantly filling with undisguised contempt. She visibly recoiled and spat out, “What the hell are you doing here?”
Werner said, “Please, don’t get worked up. I just wanted to check on you. I can’t believe your cancer cells have spread so quickly in just a few days.”
Werner thought, ‘I left Shaville just the other day, and she could at least get out of bed then. How could she have deteriorated so quickly in just a few days?‘–
Líora coughed weakly, her face sallow with illness. “Thank you for coming to see me,” she said, her voice faint. “But please, just go. If Sanford comes back and finds you here, he’ll get the wrong idea.”
A bitter pang twisted in Werner’s heart. After all, Liora was the mother of his child, and at that moment she was suffering from advanced–stage cancer. All he could do was sigh, utterly helpless to change anything.
The next instant, he cried before Liora. Liora’s brows knitted tightly in disgust, her voice sharp as she demanded, “What the hell do you think you’re
doing?”
“I’m so sorry. I owe both you and Sanford an apology. Even though you had Sanford without telling me, I never should have let him believe Yorick was his father. I was too much of a coward.” Werner hung his head in shame.
“I really don’t know what to do anymore. If he ever finds out a coward like me is his father, I’m certain he wouldn’t accept me. So, let’s just take this secret to our graves.” Werner gazed at Liora with grief–stricken eyes.
Werner said, “Liora, this must remain our secret. I know how incredibly cruel this is for you, but given our current circumstances, this truly is the least

painful outcome.”
He thought, ‘At least Sanford won’t fall apart. At least, I won’t lose my current family either.’
Liora’s eyes brimmed with tears as she turned her face away in disgust. She said coldly, “Don’t come see me again. We never had anything to do with each other in the first place.” She said nothing more.
Werner stopped crying. Then, he fished something out of his pocket.
