Chapter 569
“Don’t drive a wedge between my parents. I’m not listening to a word of your nonsense. My parents aren’t like that at all. You just want to see my family crumble. You just can’t stand to see other people happy,” Cheryl snapped.
Jennifer retorted, “As the head of the gynecology department, I’m more professional than you. Instead of picking fights with me, you’d be better off investigating your father’s whereabouts.
“Anyway, I’ve said all I need to say. Believe it or not. I can’t be bothered to deal with the likes of you.”
Cheryl snapped, “The likes of me? Take a good look at yourself. At least I’m not as heartless, selfish, and hypocritical as you are. I honestly have no idea what Donald ever saw in you. Why would he bring home such a disaster?”
Jennifer scoffed and said, “Look who’s talking. You had a kid out of wedlock and don’t even know who her father is. Do you think you’re so virtuous? You can’t even keep a man.”
“You-” Cheryl’s eyes welled up with tears at Jennifer’s words.
Jennifer said, “Do whatever you want from now on, but just don’t call me again.”
“If you dare meddle in my family affairs again, this isn’t over between us.” Cheryl sniffled and hung up.
Jennifer thought, ‘Fine. I’m just talking to the air.‘
Jennifer had never liked Cheryl. She thought Cheryl was spoiled rotten by her family and acted entitled every single day.
Jennifer thought, ‘Thank goodness she’s not my sister, or she’d drive me insane.
Jennifer glanced at the clock and found it was already past ten. Unable to hold back any longer, she went downstairs to the office of Donald, whom she cared about most apart from Teresa.
A doctor said, “Dr. Nelson, Donald was just here. He probably went to grab some coffee.”
“Alright. I’ll go to him,” Jennifer said and strode off.
Donald was making coffee when he suddenly heard footsteps behind him. Before he could react, Jennifer wrapped her arms around him from behind.
Jennifer buried her face against his back, clinging tightly as her arms locked around his waist.
She said, “I don’t want us to keep giving each other silent treatment, Donald. I’m sorry I didn’t consider your feelings, but I only spoke up because I truly love you. Please, don’t push me away over this matter.”
Donald turned around to look at Jennifer and said, “Cheryl called you, didn’t she?”
Jennifer said, “Yes. I thought you didn’t care that Cheryl hit me. Thank you for showing me that I still matter to you.”
Donald set down his cup and finally drew Jennifer into a warm embrace.
After a few seconds, he gently let go of her and said, “Jennifer, all I want is for us to have a quiet, happy life together. I’m truly sorry I can’t provide more financially, but I promise to love you with everything I have.
“My greatest wish is just for our family to live in peace and harmony.”
“I love you, too,” Jennifer said. “Once I become department head, our life will get much better.”
She didn’t ask for much, All she ever wanted was for those she loved and cared about to love her in return.

Chapter 569
Teresa woke up at 11 a.m. There was no one else in the room.
Still groggy, Teresa realized she was in Jonathan’s house. Her eyes landed on an open jewelry box on the bedside table, where there was a dazzling diamond necklace.
Teresa picked up the necklace and found a note tucked beneath the box. It read: [I don’t know if this can make up for all the hurt I’ve caused you. If it’s not enough, I’ll find another way. From Jonathan.]
Teresa, however, placed the expensive necklace back down.
She was ready to leave, but couldn’t find her clothes anywhere. She searched the bedroom for her clothes, but in vain. Finally, on the sofa by the bed, she spotted a brand–new outfit with another note tucked underneath.
It read: Your clothes are in the wash. You can wear this. Don’t think about sneaking off as soon as you wake up. Have breakfast first. I made all your favorites.
