Chapter 28
(
“Good morning.” Fin and Dune said at the same time then glanced at each other in annoyance.
I found a smile filling my lips, and Cross slowly set me down. “Sit down before you hurt yourself.” Lion told me, and I sat down quickly, Cross sitting down beside me, and crossing his arms.
I kicked my legs back and forth under the table and found a cup of coffee already taking a long drink.
“Was your trip nice?” River asked suddenly, and I looked over grinning.

“Yes, it was a blast, well, until Emma Phillips pushed off a cliff,” I casually mentioned
Cross made a growling sound. “A cliff?”
Lion looked at me with narrowed eyes. “She pushed you off a goddamn cliff?

I nodded and sighed heavily. “Oh yes, there I was, minding my own business,– when, whoosh, hands, pushing me,” I made hand motions, and Dune looked away to hide a smile.
“I about froze to death, oh-! And wolves! I had to fend off an entire pack of wolves with a stick! Thankfully, Mr. Nicholas saved me though, he’s amazing,” I exclaimed.
Fin glanced at River. “Mr. Nicholas?” His words held apprehension. River nodded calmly.
“Yes, he happens to teach math at her school,”
Lion sighed at River’s words, looking annoyed. “Yeah, more drama, why can’t he just –”
“Good morning!” A pleasant voice suddenly called, and everyone looked over as Kayla sat down beside River.
“Did you sleep well?” River asked her, and I frowned at the interaction, for some reason not liking it.
“Yes I did,” Kayla turned to me. “Raven! How was your field trip?”
I looked down at my coffee with a mumbled, ‘fine‘ losing my urge to talk loud and fast. I looked up as I sipped my coffee, and paused seeing the mugs in front of the vampires.
They were drinking blood, it was a normal thing, they did it every morning. I flushed and reached up past my hair, thumbing the place Cross had bitten me.
A big part of me wanted that to happen again, to have them bite me. My thumb stilled as I imagined Cross biting me, and my mind drifted to the reverse harem book I read.
Multiple men, what if they were all biting me at once? My cheeks flushed, eyes closing. Imagining five sets of hands, biting-
I shifted in my chair and opened my eyes, putting my mug down. Kayla was talking to River, but he wasn’t looking at her, he was looking at me.
And so was Fin, Dune, Cross, and Lion. My already hot face grew a darker shade of red, and I stood, ready to run to the bathroom. Cross didn’t let me though, and instead pulled me into his lap.
I gasped and struggled until I felt a firm hand on my thigh. I froze as Cross leaned down to my ear. “What are you thinking about?”
I wanted to disappear into nothing. This was beyond embarrassing. “Well?” His hand tightened,
slipping further up my inner thigh. “We’re all dying to know,”
“River,” Kayla said, not liking what she was seeing in front of her: River glanced at her briefly.
“Don’t worry about it,” River told smoothly. I looked to the side, biting my lip nervously. What was I supposed to say? I was thinking about all of you?
It was weird, they were my family!

Come on Raven,” Cross’s voice was husky, and a shiver ran through me.
“Mr. Nicholas!” I blurted, not wanting to admit my shameful thoughts. Cross faltered and Lion’s face twisted in disgust.
“Mr. Nicholas? You mean Missy’s son?” Kayla asked and ran her fingers on the rim of her cup. “Isn’t he the one taking Raven?”
I jerked out of Cross’s lap. “What?!” I demanded, eyes wide as I grew pale.
River sent Kayla a sharp look. “No, he’s not, that’s nonsense,” he said sharply, and Kayla raised her hands innocently.
“Okay, I’m sorry, I thought –”
“You thought wrong,” Dune said stiffly. I touched my beating heart, slowly calming. Kayla lifted her mug, seeming distracted.
“I guess since Nicholas is back, him taking her is the least of your worries-”
“What is she talking about?!” I pointed at Kayla with an accusing tone, feeling panic set in.
River pressed his lips together, touching his temples. “Kayla, would you stop spewing nonsense please? You’re scaring her and making everyone mad for no reason.”
Kayla flinched, seeming stunned at his words. “I’m sorry, I wasn’t thinking,” she then turned to me. “Raven, I apologize, you have nothing to be scared
of.”
I wrinkled my nose at the baby voice she directed at me. I crossed my arms and sat down in my chair, not liking the suddenly tense atmosphere.
“When are you going back?” I asked Kayla, and I swore I heard Fin snort in amusement. She smiled at me brightly.
“Not for a while, I wanted to spend time with you and the others, since it’s been awhile.”
My face fell and I nodded, reaching for my coffee. Kayla began asking River about things we could all do together while she was there, and he gave her his undivided attention.
