After Asher woke up, Elyse almost knelt down to Iselle. She was about to take her in as an adopted daughter right then and there.
Asher, still in his right mind, calmed down his excited wife: “Iselle has just married Asher. Isn’t it strange for you to take her as a concubine?”
“If you ask me, you still have to see how the two children feel.”
“Yes, yes, I’m so confused. Iselle, you’ve been busy all day, let me take you back to your room to rest for a while.”
Iselle nodded with a smile.
She thought the room Elyse mentioned was a guest room. But as she walked, she realized that the room Elyse took her to was the best one in the entire standalone building.
Even better and cozier than Asher’s.
Elyse pulled Iselle down onto the bed.
“Iselle, I didn’t know what you liked, so I had someone inquire about your preferences.”
“If there is anything you are not satisfied with, you must tell me.”
Iselle looked around in disbelief. On the bedside table were her favorite lilies. The bookshelf was filled with her professional books and novels she loved to read. Even the bedsheets were her favorite goose yellow.
She thought it was all just an accident, even Nolan, with whom she spent the most time, probably couldn’t say what her favorite color was or what

“Of course, silly child, Elyse patted her on the shoulder. “He wasn’t just saying he sees you as a granddaughter, he never promises something he can’t deliver.”
“Speaking of which, I am actually very grateful that it was you I married, not Delphine.”
Iselle was stunned for a moment. “Why?”
She had lived for so many years, and it was the first time someone would say she was better than Delphine.
When Delphine was mentioned, Elyse’s smile faded.

Delphine agreed, just to spite Caelen. Elyse was unaware of these events, but she experienced them firsthand.
Elyse held her hand.
“Iselle, if it were Delphine marrying into the family, I would only give her money to send her away, I wouldn’t prepare all these things.”
“Even if in the future, you and Asher have no romantic feelings, I still hope you can call me mom and call Asher brother.”
Iselle’s eyes were red, she tried to open her mouth but couldn’t say a word. Her mother’s pronunciation was too unfamiliar to her.
She also wanted to cling to her biological mother, to call out for the mother who had been lost for those years, but no one gave her the chance.
“Don’t worry, Elyse smiled, with a few laugh lines appearing at the corners of her eyes. “I’ll wait for you. I believe in the fate between us.”
After seeing off Elyse, Iselle lay on the bed lost in thought, wondering: if she had understood the elder woman earlier, would she have not gone through so much? Perhaps, Asher really is the right man.
But she wasn’t sure if Asher would fall in love with her. And she didn’t want to tie her feelings to one man either.
Once bitten by a snake, she was afraid of a well rope for ten years.
