Chapter 504
Jennifer said, “It was Donald who told Jonathan where you were. I know you don’t want to get involved again.”
“Jennifer, you’re overthinking it,” Fiona smiled, gently rubbing Jennifer’s hair. “Jonathan told me on the way here that it was Gordon who messed up your wedding. I’ll make him apologize.”
Gordon, suffering from Alzheimer’s, straightened up as soon as Fiona gave him a glare, and quickly apologized to Jennifer. It seemed that he respected Fiona a lot.
Fiona said to Jennifer, “I heard you haven’t been going to work lately. You have to let it go and do what you should do.”
Now that Fiona put it that way, Jennifer felt she shouldn’t push the matter any further.
Fiona turned sternly to Irene and Heidi. “You two didn’t keep an eye on Gordon and let him cause trouble at Jennifer’s wedding. You owe her art apology
too.”
With obvious reluctance, Irene and Heidi finally offered a grudging apology under Fiona’s commanding presence.
Thanks to Fiona, the whole thing was finally settled.
Jennifer held Teresa’s hand and said to Fiona, “Ms. Nelson, she’s my younger sister, Teresa. Well, it’s late, and we’ll leave you to your family reunion.
Teresa passed by Fiona, politely bowing her head in greeting. Fiona said she was really pretty.
After Teresa left, Fiona turned her head slightly and noticed Jonathan staring intently in the direction Teresa had gone. She said, “What are you looking
at?”
Jonathan pulled his gaze back and gave a helpless smile.
Irene said, “Mom, you gotta talk to him. He’s still obsessed with Jennifer’s sister, even though they’ve been divorced for three years.”
Fiona sounded very surprised. “Really? Jonathan never told me this. Hey, why did you two get divorced?”
“We just didn’t get along,” Jonathan said quietly. Now that everything was clear, it was time to return to the Lynn residence.
Fiona studied Jonathan for a long moment before giving a slow nod.
As the group prepared to leave, Fiona spoke quietly with Genevieve, asking Gordon to wait outside.
Suddenly, a loud thud came from outside. Fiona heard a familiar voice and rushed out, only to see Gordon collapse on the ground, coughing with blood
in his mouth.
Fiona froze in shock. Irene and Heidi knew well what was going on. Gordon had terminal lung cancer.
Jonathan, who was downstairs in his car, got a call from Irene, saying that Gordon had collapsed. Without hesitation, he hurried upstairs.
Fiona sat by Gordon’s bed. She asked Jonathan why he hadn’t told her about Gordon’s cancer diagnosis. This was the first time she had heard the news.
Jonathan said softly, “Grandpa didn’t even know about his illness. He was so looking forward to seeing you. How could I bring myself to tell him the truth?”
Hearing this, Fiona closed her eyes briefly, tears streaming silently down her face. She said, “Can you give us a minute? I just want to sit with him for a
bit.”
“Of course.” Jonathan gave a quiet nod before carefully shutting the door.
After getting home, Teresa sent Jonathan a message to thank him. She didn’t mention a word about Irene calling her over and saying all those harsh

words.
Jennifer returned home, preparing to officially return to work at the hospital tomorrow.
Donald looked grim, staring at Jennifer as if she were a stranger. He said, “Are you happy now? You got your pride, and everything went your say
“What exactly are you trying to say?” Jennifer retorted sharply at Donald.
“You ran your mouth in front of Jonathan and Aunt Irene like I didn’t even exist. You said my parents were brown–nosing her. Great, you got your peace and made the rest of us look pathetic.” Donald’s voice was filled with hurt and disappointment.
All the way home, he had waited for Jennifer to say something, but in the end, he was the one who broke the silence.
“Jennifer, you’re so full of yourself.” For the first time ever, Donald slammed the door and stormed out.
Once he was gone, Jennifer’s gaze shifted. She looked a little shaken, thinking, ‘How could he just leave like that? I didn’t do anything wrong.
When Gordon woke up and saw Fiona beside him, a smile bloomed on his face. He closed his eyes again, falling into a light sleep.
Gordon’s condition was getting worse. Fiona said she needed to go back because the kids there still needed her. Hearing that, Gordon refused to let her go alone. Wherever she went, he had to follow.
“I’ll have someone drive you back,” Jonathan said.
He knew that all Gordon wanted was a quiet place where no one knew them. He wanted to grow old beside the woman he loved.
Fiona agreed. She couldn’t bring herself to say no to a dying man. Even though she hadn’t truly forgiven Gordon, seeing him in this state made her heart
ache.
Irene and Heidi saw them off. “Mom, if you ever need anything, just let us know. And you can come back any time.”
Fiona sternly warned Irene and Heidi, “You better behave yourselves. I know how pushy you can get. Leave Jennifer alone.”
Irene threw up her hands in exasperation. “She’s the one stirring things up. I don’t want to argue with her. I’m too old for this.”
Fiona said, “Glad you said that. Life treats you well. You have a good son to handle everything for you. Just do something you’ve always wanted to do. Stop annoying the kids. They’re doing their best.”
Irene pursed her lips, not daring to argue. She nodded. “I know”
The next day, Jennifer came back to the hospital. When Vincent came to her, she got a little nervous.
However, Vincent told her he would let the past go
and that as long as she performed well over the coming months, she could be up for promotion to
department head by year’s end.
He said, “You should thank Mr. Lynn-”
“What did you say?” Jennifer asked, not quite catching what he said.
“Never mind. You may go now.” Remembering Jonathan’s instructions, Vincent stopped himself from saying more. He didn’t want to get involved.
Before leaving, he added, “Oh, by the way. Rumor has it you’re pregnant. Is that true?”
“I’m not pregnant,” Jennifer quickly replied.

Vincent said, “Well, so it’s just hearsay. You can go back to work now.”
Jennifer nodded and said, “Yes. I’ll take my leave.”
Jennifer went back to her office, letting out a quiet sigh of relief. She thought that maybe things were finally looking up. She wanted to share the good news with Donald, but then a thought struck her, and she frowned.
A little while later, Lucia came in with a cup of coffee. “D
Nelson, you must be tired during your pregnancy. Try this. It tastes really good.”
Jennifer cast a cool glance at Lucia. “I’m not pregnant.”
Lucia looked utterly stunned. “Wait, what? Didn’t you announce you were pregnant at the wedding?”
