Chapter 6
Alpha Jace truly didn’t disappoint me-he arranged a grand traditional bonding ceremony exactly as I’d requested.
Incense burned with secret herbs, the air thick with the sweet scent of mint and cedar-my personal scent markers.
I wore the ceremonial Luna dress while he was draped in dark robes, silver markings of Alpha status gleaming at his collar.
All guests were dressed traditionally, the atmosphere solemn and reverent, as if we’d stepped through time’s cracks back to the pack’s glorious past.
“Under the spirit moon’s witness, mates bow to each other.”
The elder had barely finished speaking when Jace swept me up into his arms before the entire assembly.
Just as we were about to leave, Kael stood there in his suit, completely out of place on our territory, his face ashen.
“Alina Vale… today was the day I promised to come home,” his voice cracked with rage, teeth grinding. “I canceled Amaris’s thing, bought gifts, and this is the fucking surprise you give your Alpha?”
His eyes were nearly crimson as he stared at Jace’s arm around my waist.
“I’m willing to overlook your mess these past days, won’t even pursue how you bullied Amaris. Come back now, and I’ll pretend none of this happened.”
I tapped Jace’s shoulder, signaling him to ignore it and keep walking.
The next second, Kael roared”Alina Vale! Don’t push your luck!”
Jace stopped, gently set me down, adjusted his cuffs, turned around, and threw a devastating punch without warning-
“CRACK!”
Kael staggered backward, blood streaming from his nose, face deathly pale.
He lunged forward but was immediately restrained by two security wolves, his furious roars mixed with ragged breathing, threatening to tear the roof off.
“Fight me one-on-one! What kind of Alpha needs backup?”
Jace smiled coldly”I want to. What’s it to you?”
His eyes turned glacial as he pointed at the unhealed wound on my cheek”That punch was payback for Alina. Your ‘bro’ deliberately tripped her that day—she’s
still not fully healed.”
I unconsciously touched my face; even thick makeup couldn’t hide that vicious scar.
Kael laughed bitterly Playing victim now? You fell on your own and blame Amaris? Three-year-old pups have more integrity.”
Even now, he still chose not to believe me.
Looking at the mockery in his eyes, I felt suddenly lost. How had I ever fallen for this male?
He’d denied me, ignored me, pushed me to the edge of the abyss bit by bit, never stopping.
My voice was calm”I don’t want to discuss that day anymore. Whether you believe me doesn’t matter now.”
“I said we should break up long ago. You like Amaris-she understands you, can game with you, pull all-nighters, drink, be your perfect mate. Fine, I accept it.”
“I’m letting go willingly, Alpha Kael!”
“Congratulations in advance. When you bond ceremony, don’t invite me. Never disturb me again.”
Karl froze, then resumed that superior Alpha attitude.
“Bullshit! Amaris is my friend! I’ve only ever had feelings for one female wolf in my life-you, Alina Vale!”
“Even as dense as you are, you should know my feelings for you are real. What madness is this?”
“Only feelings for me?”
But his favoritism, tolerance, and protection all went to that bitch!
I laughed coldly, striking back mercilessly”Friend? Curled up in the one bed?”
“You say you love me… sorry, I truly can’t feel it, and I no longer care.”
“Your Luna, Kael Thorne, is too good for my ‘Omega bloodline.””
His eyes flickered, still struggling”I’m an Alpha, I have urges-it was just that once! Once the pup’s born, I’ll cut all contact with Amaris.Okay?”
I actually laughed out loud.
Even now he didn’t understand-from the night of his first betrayal, we were already done.
I took Jace’s hand, ready to leave.
Behind us, Kael shrieked”Alina Vale, you’re serious?!”
Jace turned back, eyes mocking”When you were giving my wife the cold shoulder years ago, I wanted to break your bones. My Luna deserved to have her chase you for three years? What kind of Alpha do you think you are?”
Kael’s pupils dilated”It’s you asshole!”
Suddenly he remembered being jumped and beaten with a bag over his head one morning.
The attacker had cursed while beating him”Dare touch my mate? I’ll kill you, you rutting bastard!”
All these years he’d never figured out who did it. Turns out… the real deal showed up today.
He struggled frantically, roaring”Shit! Let me go-!”
But the guardwolf held him fast. He was powerless, forced to watch as I was led away by the “rival” he’d once dismissed, the ceremony continuing, vows being
renewed.
His chest heaved violently, face pale, vision darkening.
The next second, he collapsed…
