Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Tears splashed onto the back of my hand, drop after drop.

Kael went rigid, loosening his death grip on my wrist, exhaustion and irritation flickering across his features.

“Fine. How about I spend three days a week at her home, and the other four with you? That work for you?”

His voice hardened, eyes turning glacial.

“Alina, this is the biggest concession I can make as an Alpha. Don’t push your luck.”

I drew a shaky breath, forcing down the storm in my chest, my voice controlled to the point of eerie calm.

“That won’t be necessary. Once we break the mate bond, you can spend all days with her. Just don’t waste my time anymore.”

He stared at me intently, fury blazing in his eyes, his tone carrying the weight of a final warning.

“You sure about this?”

I turned away, refusing to engage, and jabbed the elevator button.

He suddenly gave a bitter laugh and shoved me hard.

“Fine. Keep acting like a spoiled wolf.”

I wasn’t ready for it-my body slammed into the cold wall, forcing a sharp gasp from my lungs.

He glanced at me without a trace of remorse and turned to leave.

Amaris stood in the doorway, deliberately raising her voice.

“Kael, you can’t be so harsh. Sure, she’s a little possessive and dramatic, but that’s normal. You should comfort her, not yell at her. Konw that, bro?”

Kael casually draped an arm around her shoulders.

“Let her go-the clingy type you can’t shake off. Back when she chased me for three whole years, I gave her nothing but cold looks and harsh words, and she still wouldn’t quit. Guess she enjoys the abuse.

He patted her arm with a derisive smirk.

“Females can be so exhausting. That’s why I prefer friends like you-less drama.”

Amaris twisted playfully in his arms, pouting”What? I’m female too. How else would I be carrying your pup?”

He clicked his tongue, propping his elbow up and pretending to study her chest.

“With a chest that flat? You sure about that?”

They laughed as they disappeared into the apartment, the door slamming shut behind them.

The air felt shredded, leaving only my erratic heartbeat, each pulse like silver fangs tearing at my chest.

The elevator finally arrived, and I frantically hammered the close button.

The doors slid shut but didn’t move.

My phone buzzed-Luna Marry.

“Alina, sweetheart, I know all about Kael and Amaris. I’ve already given him hell for it-he was completely out of line. But don’t take it too hard, every pack has

their troubles.”

“That girl promised she has no interest in breaking your bond. She’ll raise the pup herself, I’ll help, and you can pretend this never happened.”

I licked my dry lips “Luna Marry, it’s…over.”

Her tone shifted, going cold.

‘Why are you so stubborn? I know you’re just an omega and not on Kael ‘s level, but don’t you understand the basics?”

‘He makes one mistake and you can’t forgive him? This petty behavior is going to drive him away for good.”

I gripped the phone until my knuckles went white, voice trembling.

‘Luna Marry, from the moment we met, you’ve seen me as a joke because my family doed business with humans and I’m an Omega… Well, now I’m stepping iside. Your son deserves ‘purer’ bloodlines.”

Before she could respond, I hung up.

Kael’s pack was both purer bloodlines.

Every pack gathering, the elders would ask with fake concern”what kind of wolf are you? Beta? Gamma? ”

When I’d name my bloodline, they’d exchange glances and shake their heads”An omega? That’ll weaken our pack. Our next Alpha can’t come from someone like hat.”

They say intelligence comes from the maternal line… The Thorne bloodline might be doomed.”

And Kael would sit there watching, that faint smile on his lips, never saying a word in my defense.

He despised me too.

remembered the first time I’d confessed my feelings-his eyes held no warmth”Alina, my mate needs to be Beta at least. You think you can match me?”

He’d only dated me later, probably because I’d chased him for three solid years.

n the elevator, I slid down the metal wall, my breathing spiraling out of control.

Finally, after what felt like hours, the elevator began its descent.

When the doors opened, a tall figure stood silhouetted against the lobby lights.

couldn’t make out his expression, but I knew-he was frowning again, like every time I’d been hurt or humiliated.

He stepped inside, fingertips gently wiping the tear tracks from my cheeks before pulling me into his arms without hesitation.

‘Alina, don’t you ever let yourself fall apart like this again.”

The stench of alcohol hit me hard.

How much had he drunk?

This usually composed Alpha had actually sworn during our phone call.

I pushed weakly against him, worried about the elevator doors closing.

He only held me tighter”Don’t try to back out now,it’s too late.”
