“But it’s not enough.” I looked at him coldly and smiled. “Salvatore, you owe me this.”
His expression changed a little.
He grabbed my sleeve and asked, “Do you really hate me that much? So much that you want me dead?”
I did not respond. Silence was my answer, and it said everything.
Later, I had people keep tabs on Salvatore to make sure he never got another chance to bounce back. However, I did not bother to ask about him myself, as I did not care to know more.
Until Gabi sent me a video of the two of them tangled up together.
That was when I found out Gabi had come back to the States, and she and Salvatore were involved again.
She thought I would be jealous, but she was wrong.
I was calm. My heart did not even flinch as I replied kindly, “Salvatore has an STD.”
Gabi did not respond.
Eventually, she married him anyway.
At first, she wanted to hold on to Salvatore, hoping to start over with him and live a rich life again.
However, Salvatore was already broken and hollowed out. He had no strength left to rebuild anything anymore.
In the beginning, Gabi could endure it. Yet, as time passed, she could not take it anymore.
She started cheating with rich young guys.
One of them even slept with her right in front of Salvatore.
When they were done, they humiliated him and made him clean up after them.
Gabi stopped defending him as she did not feel sorry for him at all. She even kicked him away and looked at him like he was nothing.
“Mute now, huh? Salvatore, this is the only kind of job you’re good for,” Gabi mocked.
“You’re the type of guy that even if you worked as a cleaner, people would still think you’re dirty.”
Salvatore did not say anything at first. However, the second someone added, “No wonder Giulia didn’t want you, tsk,’ he suddenly looked up.
He was done. Done with this humiliating life.
His pride and his dignity were crushed long ago.
And in that moment, he realized something. It all started with Gabi.
If she had not gotten jealous when I gave the unlimited bidding and run to him acting all pitiful, he never would have dug up my father’s grave and ended up like this.
It was all Gabi’s fault.
That thought turned into a curse in his mind.
And then, without even thinking, he grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Gabi again and again.
Even her lover did not escape.
When everything settled, Salvatore slumped to the ground, completely drained. He covered his eyes with both hands.
It was as if that could help him forget everything.
And when he opened them again, he imagined himself back as the confident, untouchable man he once was.
He imagined I would still quietly stand behind him, smile gently, rub his shoulders, and ask, “Are you tired?”
Sadly, that was just a dream.
Salvatore was quickly arrested for murder.
When I heard the news, I was at my dad’s grave.
I reached out and brushed the dust from his tombstone, my heart a mix of emotions.
After a long silence, I sighed softly and whispered, “Dad, I think I finally got justice for you.”
Then, I moved overseas.
Years passed. One day, I was walking alone in a quiet foreign town.
Mountains stretched endlessly in the distance, and the sunset cast a soft glow on my face.
Suddenly, my phone rang, and I picked it up.
A gentle voice on the other end said to me.
“Hi, Ms. Zarella. Just letting you know, the flowers you ordered have been placed on the grave…”
