Chapter 6
Back home, Ariel took the potion the witch had sent her in secret.
It would erase her scent–and sever the mate bond from her side alone.
But the cost was steep. The side effects were harsh, and it would take time to
fully activate.
Challenging the Lunelle’s gift always came at a price.
The moment she drank it, her body broke out in a high fever that refused to
go down.
Damon stumbled home, reeking of alcohol. When he saw her unconscious,
cheeks flushed with fever, panic instantly took over.
He rushed to carry her to the pack hospital.
When she regained consciousness, her eyelids were heavy, and it took
everything she had to finally open them.

The werewolf nurse changing her bandages gasped in surprise. “Luna, you’re
finally awake! Your body suddenly lost its self–healing ability–you burned
with fever for an entire day and night. Alpha was going crazy. He stayed by
your side the whole time. Only just now did he step out to take a call. Should I
go get him? He’ll be thrilled to know you’re awake.”
Ariel shook her head, her voice hoarse and rough. “No need.”
The nurse nodded, finished changing her bandages, and quietly exited.
The large hospital room fell silent-
quiet, Ariel could hear Damon’s voice
from outside, still on the phone.
He was always calm and reserved–except around her. That was the only
time he ever lost control.
But now, his tone carried excitement and joy.
A few moments later, his footsteps faded away–he had left.
Ariel used every ounce of her strength to get out of bed. The potion’s side
effects had left her weak.
She made it down several floors when she saw Damon walking out of the
OB–GYN wing–with Isabelle.
He was supporting her gently, and both of them were smiling–wide,
uncontrollable smiles.
The moment Isabelle saw Ariel, she gasped in mock surprise. “Luna! What a
coincidence! You’re at the hospital too?”
Ariel’s gaze dropped to Isabelle’s stomach–and her chest tightened violently.
“I–I went to pick up your prescription downstairs,” Damon stammered, quickly
letting go of Isabelle. “I bumped into her by accident. She’s pregnant. I was
just worried something might happen.”
He was nervous–rushing to explain, terrified she might misunderstand.
Ariel closed her eyes for a long moment before speaking. “Isabelle… how far
along are you? Where’s the father?”
Isabelle beamed as she placed a hand on her belly, her face glowing. “Just
found out–one month. The father couldn’t come today, but when he heard I
was pregnant, he was so happy! He bought me several properties, wired me.
a hundred million, and tonight he’s setting off fireworks in the pack to
celebrate the birth of our love child!”
She was radiant with pride, basking in the attention. Ariel stared at her for a
long time before smiling faintly. “Is that so?”
Isabelle’s grin widened. “Yeah! Luna, since we all have time, how about
dinner? I’ll invite him too.”
“No need. Ariel doesn’t have time for that,” Damon said sharply, his face
darkening as he cast a cold glance at Isabelle.
Then, as if to smooth things over, he turned and wrapped his arms around
Ariel, coaxing gently, “Ariel, your body’s still weak. You shouldn’t be running
around.”
“She’s just an Omega. You don’t need to pay her any mind.”
Hearing the disdain in his voice, Isabelle’s face turned pale. She bit her lip,

eyes welling up with tears, and looked down. “You’re right. I got carried away.
An Omega like me isn’t worthy of eating with Luna.”
With that, she turned and stormed off, wiping her tears as she went.
Damon twitched, ready to go after her–but when he saw Ariel standing there,
calm and unreadable, he hesitated… and stayed put.
Later, after picking up a bunch of supplements, Ariel was discharged and
went home.
Maybe it was guilt from snapping at Isabelle, but Damon was completely
distracted on the way back. As soon as they got home, he shut himself in hist
study, claiming he had work to do.
Ariel had barely stepped into her room when her phone lit up with a message
from Isabelle.
It was a picture of a pregnancy report.
Then, one message after another flooded in–each one more vicious than the
last.
Chapter 7 Leftovers
“Ariel, I know you figured it out today. The pup I’m carrying belongs to Alpha
Damon. Don’t fool yourself into thinking he really loves you. If he did, what
does that make me?You have no idea how obsessed he is with me. Every
year–on your birthday, on your Mating Ceremony anniversary–he puts you
)
to sleep and then comes to me. He’s insatiable. We go through boxes of
condoms, and I can’t even walk the next day. We’ve made love in his
Maybach, in his Alpha office, even in your marital bedroom. He’s tried all
seventy–two positions on me. They say sex and love go hand in hand. Has he
ever given you that kind of passion?”
Ariel took a deep breath, forcing down the nausea in her chest.
She turned off her phone.
And right then–Damon wrapped his arms around her from behind.
“Sweetheart, what are you looking at?”
He rested his chin on her shoulder and glanced at the screen–only to find it
completely black.
