On their anniversary, I brought flowers to the cemetery to visit Bennett and Adeline.
It wasn’t raining that day, but a few dark clouds drifted across the sky.
I wanted to have a heart–to–heart with Bennett and Adeline, so I leaned directly against their headstone. After a while, I actually fell asleep.
In my dream, Bennett and Adeline stood beside me, looking at me with loving eyes.
In the dream, I felt anxious and wanted to wake myself up from sleep.
Bennett and Adeline smiled at me and said, “Harper, we’re not in a hurry. We’ll take our time on the road ahead. We’ll keep walking until we find happiness.”
Gradually, Bennett and Adeline’s figures faded away. Then I heard the pleasant sound of wind chimes in my ears.
I opened my eyes and looked in the direction where they had disappeared in my dream, smiling through my tears.
I whispered softly in my heart, “Dad, Mom, goodbye.”
