Lotus POV
I was feeling sick. I felt like I’m going to die, and so I cried from frustration, I didn’t even make it home. I broke and almost died only halfway through, driving was exhausting, I didn’t want to focus anymore on the road, it’s driving me insane.
“Why are you crying miss? They’re coming to get you,” the cashier says assuring me that I’m saved, but I didn’t feel safe. I wanted to get away and here I am going back.
“My head hurt,” that was my best answer that I could come up with on the spot without telling a total stranger my whole life story.
“I’ll get you some ice for it, I think you’ve hit it when you fell,” he says he got me an ice bag, and got me a chair next to his one, we both sat. down waiting for my people to come and get me. I felt sick, extremely sick, like I did the night I found out that I’m mated, but then he came in and made everything better.
“Thanks,” I say, holding the ice against my head.
“You welcome, so how did you end up here?” he asks me.

“Car ran out of gas, and I think the sun was too strong,” I answer him, I’m not going to tell him I’m running away from my mate, and it’s the distance that’s going to kill me now.
“Aouch, hoped your folks get over soon, where were you headed?” he
asks me next, and I groan, I don’t want to tell him any more details.
“Sorry, too much pain,” I say as an excuse to why I can’t talk.
I stayed quiet and waited for them to get here, mom was still calling and messaging but I wasn’t ready to face her yet, when I get back home maybe? Or maybe I won’t go back home, I’ll stay at Nutmeg’s place, or maybe I’ll run away again, I don’t know what I’m going to do, but I’ll figure it out.
I watched the guy sell people snacks and gas, some of them looked at me weird trying to get why I’m sitting here with an ice pack but I ignored them. I saw a couple walk in buy snacks, and condoms, they kissed in the middle of the store a couple time before they left, I turned to the guy and he shrugged, telling me that it happens often. I also saw a family walk in, with a heavily pregnant mother who just needed to pee, the guy told her she gotta buy something and she points to her toddler who’s attacking the chocolate isle seeking revenge, he then handed her the bathroom keys and kept an eye on the kid.
“Is it always like this?” I ask him.
“Most days, but I don’t have someone walk in and faint every day, although it’s more common than you know,” he says.
“People faint a lot?” I ask him with a giggle.
“In the summer, when the heat is bad, yeah. There isn’t many gas. station around here.” he says which makes sense, I’m not the only one with poor knowledge of cars and poor planning.
I kept on waiting for them, as the time passed I was starting to feel better, the pain was starting to fade, the sunburn in my brain was starting to get better. And then they came in, he ran in and hugged me,
I didn’t know that I was scared or worried until he got here, I finally felt safe, I wasn’t even in danger, and still I was terrified and finally I was better.
“Lotus,” he said my name, it was a mix between human, and a growl, it sounded like he was scared that I died and still so happy I’m alive.
“I’m sorry for hitting your car,” I whisper facing his chest.
“Let it burn. I don’t care as long as you’re fine, “he says, holding me tighter, making me unable to breath anymore.

“I told you you’re gonna hug her,” I heard a foreign voice says, I tried to peek around his chest but i was no use, he’s built like a wall.
“She’s my mate, what do you expect?” I heard Uncle Damian says, it’s the second time he claims me as his mate out loud.
“Let her go so I can proper hello,” the guy who I didn’t recognize says and finally I was let down, I was red and sweaty, unable to breath easily.
“River, this asshole Beta, and your new best friend,” the new guy introduces himself.
“Lotus,” I answer him, introducing myself.
“The car thief.” he says making me turn bloody red.
“Are you ready to leave?” This new guy River asks.
“We are.” Uncle Damian answers for the both of us.

“What do we owe you? Did she break anything? Buy anything?” River asks the guy.
“Twenty–dollars,” the guy answers, Damian gets his wallet to pay only to find his wallet empty, he turned to me and I blushed even more, how could I blush even worse than I am, I already had a sun burn on my checks.
River paid instead, and we all walked out then, River was laughing his ass out, saying how much he likes me, and likes the fact that I have stolen both car and money already.
“What are we going to do with your car?” River asks.
“What happened to the car?” Uncle asks me.
“Out of gas,” I answer him.
“River.” he says and the guy just nods, saying he’s on it, we waited for him as he got a tub of gas filled, we dropped him using his car over to Uncle’s car, and then we drove off, leaving him to deal with it.
“I really sorry.” I say.
“We’ll talk and I mean really talk this time Lotus, you can’t keep just hide and go to your room this time.” he says and I nod.
“Fine,” I say crossing my hands over my chest acting angry at him.
“You can’t be angry,” he objects.
“Why not? Watch me.” I answer him.
“You almost died. I thought you were dead, I was worried you’d crash and die,” he says.

“It’s not the car, precious flower, you rejecting me would kill both of us, but you dying, would leave me alive but broken, I’d forever mourn the love I’ve lost. I can buy another car, hell I can get mine fixed in a few days, but if I roam the whole earth, I’ll never be able to find another flower to call mine but you,” he says, which sounded romantic, making me blush, the AC helped with the heat and made some of the redness go down, but I’m back to being a ripe tomato
“I was starting to feel sick again was that from a heat stroke or you?” I ask him, needing to know how far away I could get before this mating thing kills me.
“The mating bond was calling you back in,” he answers me.
“Would it kill me?” I ask him.

“What about if one of us got to travel? Or stay behind?” I ask him, I won’t just spend my whole life running after him.

“You’re sick in the head,” I say, but I wasn’t too angry at him, I liked it, he had the same sense of humor as me.

“Yes, we can start with that if you want, you’ll stay at my brother place. I’ll be at the academy, we’ll spend time together, I’ll take you out on a date maybe,” he says.
