Chapter 26
Chapter 26
Days passed and I didn’t hear of shadowborn nor of Darius.
I stayed with Kael tending to his wounds, he had a fast healing process and the mate bond between us also improved his healing abilities.
I can’t stay away for ever, Liora or perhaps my father may be next.
How Darius received help from the council was something I couldn’t understand.
Two days after, I left for Silverclaw with Kael.
Darius must have received help from Damien. He mentioned that he was forced, but shouldn’t they be enemies.
The shadowborn took Helena’s life not unless Damien doesn’t know of this
All eyes were on me when I got to the Silverclaw pack. It broke my heart to see the pack I once cherished still treat me like I was a plague to run away from.
But I am over that now, what they think doesn’t matter anymore.
Guards stopped me on my way in but Beta Zane ordered them to let me through. I went straight to see Alpha Damien.
I entered Damien’s room alone. Although Kael kicked against it, I couldn’t go with him since he
and Damien were enemies.
“You told Shadowborn where to find me, didn’t you?” I folded my hand under my chest staring a him coldly.
Damien smirked, in his hand was a small bag of ice, he pressed it on his red cheek where Kael had punched him.
“Are you here to throw allegations or ask questions?” He asked.
“Just give me the damn reply,” I said, my patience wearing thin.
“I don’t know what you are saying.”
I sighed. “Did you know the shadowborn were the one who caused Helena’s death?”
Damien looked at me keenly. “Are you trying to come up with an excuse now?”
“I’m telling the truth, the fire was caused by them. And now they are using you.”
Damien sat straight staring at me.
“You can ask them directly since you work with them. But I need you to call the council.”
“Why will I do that?” He asked.
“I just know that you will. Besides, the council is looking for me. You won’t miss this opportunity to give your pack a good name. That’s how you’ve always been.”
Damien called the council together.
Mara was already scowling. Others were sending me suspicious glares.
I stepped to the center.
Elder Mara was the first to speak.
“You murdered twenty-five Shadowborn.”
“They attacked first.”
“The council voted.” Elder Mara said.
“And?”
Another Alpha stepped in this time. “They’re offering you a choice.”
I folded my arms. “Go on.”
“You can either accept that we keep you under close watch for one year which you’ll do as the council says for that period or you leave the territory.” Elder Mara said coldly.
I stared at them all. “I’m not here to be your weapon, neither I’m I leaving. You all don’t get to make choices for me. I choose my path.”
“Then, what do you want to do?” Another Alpha asked.
I smirked moving closer. “I have no intention to rule so don’t worry. Just like I promised the council guards. I will use whatever power this is to help those that really need it. The prophecy itself mentioned ruin or peace. I’ll make my choice myself.” I said firmly staring them right in the face.
They started murmuring, some in agreement, others in dread.
I raised my voice.
“I’ll protect, but not for your fear. Not for your broken rules. For the people. For the ones like me who were never given a place.”
My father Alpha Jareth was not usually present at meetings like this. He despised the council because he believes some of them are working with shadowborn.
Mara stayed silent.
I walked out of the council, shutting them up. Beta Zane waited for me outside and he smiled for
the first time in weeks.
“You did a great job there.”
I smiled letting out the breath I’ve been holding.
I returned to Silverclaw and just outside the pack house stood Nathan.
He stared at me with the same eyes he always has.
“Why did you return again? I thought you found someone better than my father. It was a good
thing he never accepted a person like you.” He spat looking straight at me.
I crouched next to him wanting to touch him but he shoved my hand away.
“I hear you are cursed. Please don’t touch me.”
“Nathan,” I called. “You should be with your friends.”
Nathan scoffed. “Like you care. No one wants a friend having a guardian who should have burned on flame and is now cursed. Stop pretending and go back, you are not wanted here.” He

I stood up slowly watching him go. Kael came from behind. He had been watching Nathan and I with the thought of giving us some space.
“Hey, are you fine?”
I sniffed with a nod. I don’t know why it still hurts like a fresh wound.
“You’ve done all you could. At least you’ve tried, you should let him be now.”
We were still talking when I saw a figure sneaking through the back of the pack house. I drawed Kael’s attention to the figure, we looked at each other, our brows furrowed and went to check it.
We overheard two people talking at the back of the pack house, one was definitely Alpha Damien and the other…
I looked at Kael, “Your father is here.”
