The divorce proceedings moved quickly.
I submitted the secretly recorded video from Wyndham Hotel as evidence, and the judge granted the divorce on the
spot.
Casey broke down crying, pounding on Sebastian’s shoulder, then grabbed my hand with tears streaming down her face.
“We failed you… We failed your parents.”
I believed they genuinely felt guilty.
But they were still housing a pregnant Courtney at home–and now they’d even brought her, belly and all, to court.
It was obvious. As long as they had a grandchild, it didn’t matter who the mother was. I was never irreplaceable to
them.
“Sebastian,” I said, “you always claim I held my parents‘ kindness over your head. But do you even know why they lent your family that money?”
He shook his head.
“When Casey gave birth to you, she almost died from excessive bleeding. You were born prematurely and needed to be placed in an incubator.
“That 15,000 dollars my parents lent you wasn’t some generous favor. It was life–saving money–money that saved two lives. Don’t you think it should’ve been repaid? Don’t you think you should’ve treated me better?”
The saddest part? I never told him the truth because I didn’t want to burden him.
And Casey had stayed silent all these years, too.
They were both selfish in their own way.
The Souza family may have raised me, but my parent’s sacrifice, combined with Sebastian’s cruelty, had long since canceled out any debt I owed.
I didn’t owe anyone anything anymore.
While I was preparing for the criminal case, Sebastian showed up at my place again.
He held a briefcase filled with documents.
“This is everything I own,” he said.

“When I started my business, I poured everything into it because I wanted to outshine Jared. I needed to prove to you that you were wrong that I was better than him.
“Now I’m giving it all to you, Can we just start over and build a good life together?”
He handed me a few papers–property transfer agreements.
I took them, tore them into shreds, and threw the pieces right back at his face.
“You think I care about any of this? If you’d just believed in me even once, we wouldn’t be standing here today.
“Our marriage is over. Your kid is on the way. Let us live as if we never knew each other.”
I turned to open the door–but then came a thud behind me.
When I looked back, the man who had always been too proud to lower his head was now kneeling on the ground.
His voice cracked, full of remorse.
“It’s not that I didn’t believe you… I didn’t believe in myself.
“You were so beautiful. In college, guys were constantly around you–I just couldn’t stand it.
“I thought someone like you could never be truly devoted to someone like me. Then I saw you with Jared… And Courtney, your roommate, kept making up stories. I was overwhelmed and…”
It didn’t matter anymore.
Just then, the lawyer arrived with the official papers.
I opened the envelope and handed the document to him directly.
“Tell your company’s legal team to be ready. I’m officially suing all three of you.”
He read it and gave a bitter, hollow smile.
“No need.”
“Everything in there is true. I’ll plead guilty in court–and I’ll make sure Jared and Courtney are held accountable too.
“The only way we can even begin to repay you is behind bars. I just hope your life gets easier from now on.”
He staggered to his feet, nearly falling on the way down the stairs.
But before the court date even arrived, Sebastian was already taken into custody.
The one who reported him was Courtney.
Her belly had flattened. Her hair was a tangled mess. She looked like she’d lost her mind.
When she saw me at the police station, she completely snapped, lunging at me like a wild animal.
