Chapter 87 Left the Hospital
Lucky Draw
The moment Ginny finished speaking, every eye outside the emergency room turned toward Chandler.
He’d been burning with anger just a second ago, but hearing Ginny mention divorce so calmly left a strange, bitter taste in his mouth.
He couldn’t explain it. Lately, she’d changed so much it grated on his nerves.
He knew exactly who he cared about—and it wasn’t her. And yet, whenever she brought up divorce, this creeping anxiety always clawed at his chest.
Now was no different.
He didn’t want to keep talking about this–especially not here, not with all these people around. Worse, he feared Ginny would use the Wheeler family to pressure him into signing the papers. So he quickly changed the subject.
“We’re not talking about divorce right now,” he said flatly. “The issue at hand is whether or not you pushed Melody. We’ll talk about the divorce later.”
The Wheeler family–all seasoned players–picked up on the unease in his tone immediately.

Chandler thought he’d covered it well, but the cracks were obvious.
They had assumed Ginny was the only one clinging to the marriage. But now, realizing Chandler might not want a divorce either… well, that complicated things.
He was a Pierce, after all. And given how far he’d gotten at his age, he clearly wasn’t someone to be trifled with.
Since they couldn’t make any headway through him, the Wheeler family turned their ire back on Ginny with wordless coordination.
“Right,” one of them snapped. “Let’s get back to why you pushed my sister.”
“You tell us what reason did you have to push her down the stairs?”
“I already told you, I didn’t push her,” Ginny said, her voice level. “Everything that happened today was part of her little performance. And her reason for doing it? You’re looking at it
now.
“If I’m right, when the doctor comes out, he’ll tell you she lost the baby.”
Her eyes narrowed slightly, voice cool. “But are you willing to have a different doctor examine her? One not from your circle-

one who can say for sure whether she was ever pregnant to begin with?”
She looked at them, the corners of her lips barely lifting.
Kevin looked ready to swear it on the spot–but his mother grabbed his arm before he could speak.
Jake stood beside them. He caught the motion too–his mother wasn’t subtle. And he had been watching carefully this entire time.
He was calm by nature and sharp in thought. With the way Ginny laid it all out so plainly, it didn’t take him long to understand why his mother had stopped Kevin from saying anything.
As the Wheeler family quietly calculated their next move, Josh turned to Ginny, brows furrowed in confusion.
“So what you’re saying,” he asked slowly, “is that Melody was never pregnant? She faked it? Lied to all of us?
“And now that she’s tired of the act, she used this accident to… take care of the problem herself? That’s what you meant, isn’t it?”
Ginny could’ve applauded him. Spot on. If the situation weren’t so tense, she might’ve even given him a big thumbs up.

“Yes,” she said instead, calmly. “She told me she was only a few days along. Then she went to visit a friend at the hospital I used to work at. One of my colleagues overheard her talking with that friend during rounds. If you don’t believe me, I can call her right now. She’ll tell you herself.”
“No need.” Josh waved it off. He already believed Ginny. Now that she was offering witnesses, he had no reason not to.
He hadn’t been fond of Melody to begin with. Still, if Chandler truly liked her–and if she really was carrying a Pierce family child–he would’ve looked the other way.
But now?
It had all been a lie. And it wasn’t just a lie. It was a scheme to sabotage his grandson’s marriage. To frame his granddaughter–in–law.
His opinion of Melody fell even further.
He didn’t say anything aloud, but the look in his eyes was unmistakable. The Wheeler family saw it too.
Mrs. Wheeler rushed to recover.
“Lies,” she snapped, “You hurt my daughter and now you’re spinning some ridiculous tale to make yourself feel better. You say she faked it-fine. Prove it. If you can’t give us concrete evidence, we won’t believe a single word.”

“Since you’re not here for my daughter’s sake, then please- leave. You’re not welcome here. And as for what happened tonight, we’ll make sure whoever’s responsible pays the price.”
That last part was aimed straight at Ginny.
Ginny hadn’t intended to leave–partly because she wanted to see if her suspicions played out, and partly because as long as she stayed, the Wheeler family wouldn’t dare pull any stunts.
But if she stayed, Josh would stay too. And she worried about his health.
In the end, she gave in for his sake.
“I’ll just take a cab,” she said gently. “You’ve already done more than enough for me today. If you send the driver too, I’ll feel guilty.”
Josh saw that she truly didn’t want them escorting her, so he didn’t push the matter.
After watching them leave, Ginny called a cab and headed home. On the way, her phone rang. It was Ryan.
He’d left the banquet midway through to take care of something, but as soon as he heard what had happened at the Pierce

family’s birthday celebration–and that it involved Ginny–he called immediately.
“What happened? You okay?”
“Melody’s still in the ER,” Ginny replied. “We left, but she’ll probably be out soon. Whatever happens next, the Wheeler family won’t let this go quietly.”
