Chapter 83 Impossible
Lucky Draw
Josh had always disliked the Wheeler family, but now he was certain that he genuinely couldn’t stand them.
If it weren’t for the messy entanglement between Melody and Chandler still hanging in the air, he would’ve kicked them out already.
He’d just made his stance clear earlier: anyone who made things difficult for Ginny would answer to him. So when Kevin began mocking her, he spoke again.
“She made that ointment herself,” he said, voice calm but pointed. “She cares enough about this old man to remember where I’m hurting. Not like some people, who only know how to put on a show.”
Not only had he defended Ginny’s gift, he’d fired right back at Kevin. Originally, he’d planned to pull Ginny aside for a private chat, but now, with the Wheeler family in front of him, he deliberately grabbed Chandler’s hand and placed it over Ginny’s.
His voice was steady and meaningful as he said, “If you really want to be filial, give me a great–grandchild soon. Peter from next door is always bragging about his amazing great–grandson. I’d like to get back at him for once. You two are both smart. Your child will definitely be just as bright.”

On the surface, it sounded like he was just urging them to have a baby. But everyone could hear the message beneath–only a child born of Ginny would be recognized by the Pierce family.
Even if Melody one day bore a son, he wouldn’t count.
Jake, standing beside his sister, caught the shift in her expression the moment the words landed. Her face, once carefully composed, was now cracking.
He was known in the business world for being ruthless and efficient. But when it came to his sister, all logic and restraint flew out the window.
Glancing toward Ginny and Ryan, his tone turned mocking as he said, “Mr. Winchester, you really pulled out all the stops today. If I saw you on the street, I might’ve thought you were out with your girlfriend. You and Ginny… you really do make quite the pair tonight.”
He emphasized the word pair, lingering on it like a barb.
Ginny caught the insinuation immediately. Her expression remained composed, but her voice carried a bite.
“If you want to know why I was late, ask your brother. If the Wheeler family thinks I’ve disrespected the Pierce family by showing up late, feel free to ask Kevin what he did.”
She hadn’t planned to say anything tonight–she didn’t want to

worry Josh. But the Wheeler family kept pushing, kept provoking, each word sharper than the last.
She wasn’t some pushover they could toy with.
So what if it was a threat? Two could play that game.

Jake assumed she was bluffing to change the subject—until he saw his brother’s face go pale.
Wait… what had Kevin done?
While Jake stood there trying to piece things together, Kevin quickly jumped in to steer the conversation away. Melody followed his lead, the two of them seamlessly shifting the topic before it could spiral further.
Ginny, unwilling to let Josh worry, didn’t press it. But just because she was willing to let it go tonight didn’t mean she would forget.
She might let Kevin off the hook, for now. But there were some questions she still needed answers to. And only Chandler could give them.
He, however, completely misunderstood why she pulled him aside.
He thought she’d realized she was in the wrong and had come to apologize.

But the moment she opened her mouth, her voice was sharp and
cold.
“Why?” she asked. “I’ve already told you I want a divorce. Why are you still teaming up with Kevin against me? Do you have any idea how cold it was in that storage room the other night?
“I know you don’t love me, Chandler. I’ve accepted that. I’ve let go. I’ve even stepped aside so you and Melody could be together. So why do you still keep hurting me?
“Just because I loved you first, does that mean I deserve to be humiliated and manipulated over and over again?”
She had held those words inside for far too long. And now that they were out, she didn’t feel relief–just an overwhelming wave of sorrow.
Chandler stared at her, stunned.
“You… you were locked in the storage room? That’s not possible.”
He had gone back that night. If she really was in there, why hadn’t she called out to him?
“My hands were tied,” she said flatly. “My mouth was gagged. How was I supposed to call you? If Ryan hadn’t shown up when he did, I might have frozen to death in there.”

Her eyes were filled with disappointment, so deep it made him feel like he couldn’t breathe.
He hated that look on her face. It made him uneasy. Made his chest tighten.
“No… that’s not possible. Kevin wouldn’t do something like that. He wouldn’t…” he trailed off, mind reeling.
Suddenly, he remembered some strange things Kevin had said that night. At the time, he thought Kevin had never even seen Ginny. But now…
If Kevin had seen her—and already gotten his revenge on her— of course he wouldn’t have said anything more.
But still. Could Kevin really go that far?
That was a crime.
“What?” Ginny asked, her voice brittle. “He wouldn’t what?”
She stared at him, that same bitter, aching disappointment in her gaze.
To him, the Wheeler family could do no wrong. And she… she was always the villain.
No matter what she said, he’d never believe her.

Then what was the point?

“Find a time,” she said quietly. “Let’s get the divorce over with.”
