Chapter 66 Job Hunting Blocked
Chandler still wanted to say something, but when he turned and saw Ginny’s cold and resolute back, the words caught in his throat.
He opened his mouth, paused, then swallowed it all down.
“Take care.”
After he left, Ginny pulled the recorder out of her pocket. She stood in place for a moment, considering. Then she walked over to the desk, opened her laptop, and uploaded the audio file.
She had originally planned to hold onto it–only use it if the Wheeler family kept pushing her. If they left her alone, she would’ve done the same. But she didn’t expect them to be this impatient.
She didn’t expect them to send Chandler to retrieve the
recorder.
She worried what underhanded tricks they might try next if Chandler failed.
So she struck first.
They’d already played dirty more than once; what was one trap in return?

And besides, she wanted to send a message. Let them know she wasn’t the kind of person you could bully without consequence,
“Oh my god, I can’t believe Chris is that kind of person.”
“And here we’ve been blaming the wrong person this whole
time.”
“I looked up Dr. Jenkins’s background–she’s an orphan. Melody’s got her whole powerful family behind her, not to mention a few big brothers. Who would dare touch her? But Ginny? She’s got nothing. No connections, no backing. The Wheeler family could crush her in seconds.”
“They already made her resign thanks to the last media storm.”
“Who knows what she did this time to piss them off again? Maybe this recording is her last resort.”
“Jesus, this recording is explosive.”
“Rich families… always so dirty.”
“Chris, get out of the entertainment industry!”
Within the hour, “Chris Recording Explodes” was trending
everywhere.
And the hashtag “Chris, get out of the entertainment industry” took over the hot search.

His agency contacted him immediately.
Chris had just heard the news himself and was racking his brain for a way to control the backlash when his agent called, demanding to know if it was true. He promised them he’d take the trend down ASAP.
Soon after, the Wheeler family spent a hefty sum to suppress the trending tags.
But the damage was done. Their name and reputation had already taken a hit.
Ginny didn’t know this. She didn’t want to know. She had more pressing things to focus on–like finding a job.
She didn’t want to rely on anyone. She needed to support herself, and soon.
That morning, she finally got a call from a hospital inviting her for an interview. She arrived early, resume in hand.
The conversation with the department head went well. He even asked when she could start.
But not long after she left, the hospital’s HR department called and told her she hadn’t passed.
Confused, Ginny asked for the reason.

The young woman on the line sounded like she was new, and perhaps a bit indignant on Ginny’s behalf. Though she didn’t say
it outright, she hinted enough for Ginny to understand.
The Wheeler family had caught wind of her interview.
They had connections with the hospital dean.
And that was that. Rejected.
Ginny hung up, but instead of frustration, a calm smile spread across her lips.
“Thank you,” she said.
Her good mood from the morning vanished. She didn’t feel like going back to the hotel, so when she passed a small park nearby, she found a sunny spot and sat down.
If the Wheeler family was blocking her path, job hunting was going to be harder than she thought.
She needed to start planning her exit from this city.
She didn’t want to leave like this–defeated and bitter–but life didn’t always care about pride.
If survival meant walking away, then that’s what she’d have to do.

Around noon, just as she was thinking about grabbing lunch, her phone rang.
It was Professor Sam Hardy.
She hadn’t planned on telling him anything. She didn’t want him to worry.
But he already knew. Knew what the Wheeler family had done. That’s why he was calling–he wanted to help.
“Kid, I know this wasn’t your fault. So don’t blame yourself, and don’t feel ashamed,” he said gently.
“There’s a private hospital run by someone I know–Dean Ressler. He doesn’t care about status or favors. All he looks at is skill. You should give it a try.”
His words landed like water in a drought. For a moment, under the harsh sunlight, Ginny could breathe again.
“Thank you, Professor.”
“I already gave Dean Ressler a call. You can head over for the interview right away,” he added. “Be confident. You’re my best student. Don’t let this crap beat you down.”
After hanging up, Ginny sat in the park a little longer, then grabbed a quick lunch before heading toward the subway

station.
As she crossed a nearby intersection, she happened to spot Chandler and Melody walking nearby.
Melody said something, and Chandler knelt down to tie her shoelace.
She and Chandler had been married for five years. Known each other for six. He had never done something like that for her. Never smiled at her the way he just smiled at Melody.
Clearly, he loved Melody. So why hadn’t he divorced Ginny to be with her?
She knew Chandler well enough to know he wasn’t someone who shirked responsibility.
And yet, here they were.
