Chapter 64 The Recording
“I’m sorry. I dragged you into this,” Ginny said bitterly.

Ryan had already been having a rough time because of her. Now that the trending scandal had exploded, his company would probably take another hit.
It was the company he’d started in college. Nearly a decade of work. His entire heart and soul had gone into it. If it went bankrupt because of her…
“I’ll take care of it. Don’t worry,” Ginny said quietly.
Before Ryan could respond, she hung up.
Sleep was no longer an option. After a quick wash, she picked up her phone and dialed Chris’s number.
“Let’s meet. The café near Melody’s hospital.”
She grabbed her bag and walked out the door.
An hour later, Chris showed up, fashionably late as always.
“What will it take for you people to leave me alone?” Ginny asked bluntly.
Chris smiled like he had all the time in the world. “Same thing I said before. Apologize to Melody. Divorce Chandler. Once that’s

done, the scandal with you and Ryan disappears.”

“Ryan’s company? Safe. Professor Edward? Safe too. Otherwise…” His smile didn’t reach his eyes. “The storm that’s coming is bigger than you can imagine.”
Ginny let out a soft, bitter laugh. “Does it really have to be this way? I’ve told you–it’s not me refusing the divorce. Chandler’s the one who won’t sign.
“You’re pressuring the wrong person. Go make a scene at his workplace. He’ll cave eventually. His career means everything to him. Coming after me won’t change a thing.”
She even tried to offer them a way out, but Chris just chuckled. “You think I’m stupid? Melody’s pregnant with his kid. If Chandler’s reputation goes down the drain, it’ll hurt her too— and that’s not something our family wants.”
So that was it. Because she had no one. Because her fall wouldn’t
cost them anything. They could bully her without restraint.
Yesterday, Ginny had told herself not to stoop to their level. Not to let their words or actions get to her. They were just like Melody–irrational and impossible to reason with.
But now, sitting across from this smug, manipulative man, her anger burned.
Still, when she thought of Ryan and Professor Edward, she

swallowed it all down.

“I already said I’d agree to the divorce. Chandler is the one who won’t. Pushing me isn’t going to help.”
Chris picked up on her slight shift in tone and leaned in, voice laced with false sympathy. “You’ve already got another man. All you have to do is make the cheating look real. Chandler’s pride won’t allow him to drag things out after that.
“This is your best shot, Ginny. If this works, Ryan’s company survives. Edward gets to keep his job. And for you—it’s a win
too.
“You’ve already quit. No job. No income. But if you divorce Chandler, he’ll probably feel guilty after all these years and give you a nice settlement.
“You’ll live comfortably. And with the media quiet, maybe you’ll even find work again. It’s the smartest move you could make.”
Ginny couldn’t believe what she was hearing. That they would stoop this low–twist things like this–just so Melody could have
Chandler.
“This is blackmail, Chris. You’re basically asking me to sell myself. And you—aren’t you a public figure? A beacon of positive energy? What would your fans think if they knew the truth?”

Chris didn’t even flinch. “They won’t find out.”

He leaned back, smug. “Go ahead and try to expose me if you want. But someone with your reputation? No one’s going to believe a word you say. They’ll think you’re lying. Trying to drag me down with you.
“In the end, you’ll ruin your own name even more. Meanwhile, I’ll come out cleaner than ever. Might even boost my popularity.”
He laughed outright at the thought.
He expected her to snap. To yell, maybe even cry. He braced for
- it.
But Ginny was calm. So calm it made the air shift. Her silence wasn’t surrender–it was something else.
Something he couldn’t quite name.
Then, she reached into her bag and slowly pulled out a recording device.
The red light was on.
The blood drained from Chris’s face.
“Ginny, you-”

“I’ll give your advice some thought,” she said, her voice even and smooth. “But I was raised right. I don’t use filth to solve problems.”
“As for whether you let me off the hook or not…” She met his eyes. “I’m not afraid of going down swinging.”
She clicked off the recorder, slipped it into her bag, and walked out of the café.
She didn’t look back.
