Chapter 62 Felt Her Pain
Lucky Draw
If she had family–siblings, maybe–would they have stood up for her the way Melody’s three brothers did for her? Would they have defended her when she was being pushed around?
But then again, what if her family had been like Melody’s, blindly indulgent and unreasonable?
The thought unsettled Ginny. Maybe she wouldn’t have been happy even if she did have family like that.
Forget it. There was peace in being alone.
Her phone lit up with a message.
She picked it up and glanced at the screen. It was from Chandler.
In the past few days, when everyone’s malice had wrapped around her like a storm, he hadn’t sent a single message. Not
one word of concern.
And earlier today, in the hospital corridor, he’d even misunderstood her–for Melody.
Whatever shred of patience she had left for him had already been used up.
So now, seeing his message, Ginny felt nothing. No excitement.

No anticipation.

She opened the message quietly and read through it, just as calmly.
He was injured.
Her first reaction, reflexive and unguarded, was still concern. She even thought about going to check on him, maybe help with his bandages. She stood up without realizing it.
But then, a memory stopped her.
It was from their first year of marriage.
He’d been injured then too. She had just finished a surgery, hadn’t slept in over 24 hours, but the moment she heard about his injury, she jumped in a cab and rushed to the base.
All the way there, she worried about how bad it was, and imagined how happy he’d be to see her.
She hadn’t expected the look on his face when she entered the room. The way it instantly darkened.
And how, right in front of the woman by his bedside, he told her coldly to leave. Said there were nurses to take care of him, that he didn’t need her.
She had stood there, in that hospital room, wishing the ground

would open and swallow her whole.
That had been years ago. But the sting of it still lingered.
And she hadn’t even left right away. Not back then.
Lucky Draw
It was the early days of their marriage–when her feelings for him were still intense, and her heart was still reckless and full of hope.
She’d believed that time and patience would win him over. That if she just tried hard enough, he’d understand her love.
But all she got in return was disappointment she had to console herself through.
For the next few days, Chandler didn’t tell her to leave again. But he never spoke to her either. When she tried to start a conversation, he barely responded.
Back then, she still had passion. She still had hope.
Now? Both were gone.
So this time, no matter what kind of injury he had, or how serious it might be, she wasn’t going to make a fool of herself again.
Once that thought settled, she replied simply: [Get some rest.]

Since sending his message, Chandler had been checking his phone constantly, afraid he’d miss something.
But time passed, and the screen stayed still. No reply.
Just as his patience was wearing thin, the phone finally buzzed.
He opened it quickly, only to be met with the coldest response. The kind that numbed him.
He stared at it, unmoving, for a long time.
“What are you looking at, Chandler?” Melody had already noticed his odd behavior. She had tried to sneak a peek earlier, but he’d kept dodging her.
She hated how distant he was being. It made her feel like she didn’t fully exist in his heart.
Even though Chandler had accepted the fact that she was pregnant, several days had passed, and no matter how many hints she or her parents dropped, he hadn’t given her a clear
answer yet.
She was starting to suspect–maybe Chandler had fallen for Ginny.
Maybe that’s why he kept delaying the divorce. Why he wouldn’t

marry her.
The more she thought about it, the more anxious she became.
So when Chandler looked down at his phone again, Melody leaned over, smiling sweetly, trying to catch a glimpse of the message or sender.
But the moment she got close, he shifted away.
She froze, her expression awkward.
And when Chandler realized what he had done, he looked at her with visible discomfort.
“Um… It’s something from the unit,” he mumbled.
Melody could tell he was trying to make an excuse to leave. She cut him off quickly and reached for his hand, placing it gently on
her stomach.
“Chandler… the baby kicked me just now. He’s still so small, but he can already kick me. He must be a boy. Just like you–strong, determined. Probably destined to join the special ops unit, too.”
Chandler felt uneasy. He wanted to pull his hand back, but Melody changed the subject before he could.
The excitement on her face softened into something more
cautious.

“The doctor said the spot where I fell… it was dangerous. If I’d landed just a little differently, we might have lost him. Chandler, do you know how scared I was when I heard that?
“I know Ginny is your wife. I also know she didn’t mean for any of it to happen. So I’m not blaming her. But if we had lost our baby, I don’t think I would’ve been able to handle it.
“This is our first child. I want them to come into this world safe
and healthy. And I want us to be the ones to show them the world.
“Chandler… do you understand how scared and hopeful I am all at the same time?”
