“Chandler really messed up. And maybe… our family doesn’t deserve someone like you.”
Josh’s mood visibly sank as he spoke about what had happened between them. “But no matter what happens between you and Chandler, you’ll always be the granddaughter–in–law I acknowledge. And I won’t let Chandler treat you unfairly.”
“Grandpa, I don’t care about that,” Ginny said gently.
She assumed he thought her absence over the past two days meant she and Chandler were stuck in a deadlock over the divorce. So she explained, “Things at the hospital were hectic. I’ve just finished sorting everything out. Now that it’s all settled
་་
“Ginny, what are you doing here?”
A familiar voice interrupted from the doorway. Ginny and Josh turned in unison to see Melody walking in with a soft smile, poised like the rightful granddaughter–in–law.
Josh instinctively straightened, ready to scold her, but Ginny spoke first.
“I came to visit Grandpa.”

Grandpa. The word rolled off her tongue with case.
Something flickered in Melody’s eyes–contempt–but it vanished just as quickly behind her usual calm facade.

“Chandler’s been here morning and night,” she said sweetly. “When he’s not around, there’s still me and the housekeeper. No need for you to trouble yourself, Ginny. But speaking of trouble –have you managed to sort out your issues?”
Her smile never wavered, but the challenge in her eyes was unmistakable.
Ginny heard the gloating in her tone and quietly lowered her gaze toward the old man. “Grandpa, I’ve got something to handle back at the hospital. I’ll come visit another time.”
She picked up her bag and walked right past Melody without a glance.
Melody trailed after her, quickening her steps. “Ginny, quit pretending. You’ve already resigned–what would you be going back for?”
Ginny hadn’t expected her to know about the resignation. Then she remembered the phone call with Kelly and the news she’d shared. Her expression darkened with annoyance.
“So what if I did? Do I need your permission to quit?”

“I don’t care about your resignation. I just came to remind you -since you’ve decided to divorce Chandler, do us all a favor and make it clean. My baby can’t wait much longer.”
As she said it, she rested a hand on her belly, trying to provoke her.
But Ginny just looked at her once before turning away.
That brief look, that indifference–it made Melody feel like a clown.
Ginny was the one unloved, the one insulted by the world. And yet, she was the one walking away like none of it mattered.
Why? Why did she get to walk away like nothing happened?
Melody wasn’t ready to let her go. She refused to lose.
She lunged forward and grabbed Ginny’s arm—
“Ah! Chandler, help me!”
Chandler had just come upstairs when he heard Melody’s cry for help. Without a second thought, he rushed to the corridor.
There, Melody sat on the floor, clutching her stomach. Ginny stood a few feet away, cool and composed..
Melody looked terrified. Ginny looked numb.

Fury surged through Chandler like a wave. He stormed forward and shoved Ginny aside, then knelt to lift Melody with care.
“Melody, are you okay? Are you in pain?”
She clung to him, her voice trembling but her gaze never leaving, Ginny.
When she finally spoke, her tone was drenched in fear and
worry. “The baby… our baby… Chandler, don’t blame Ginny. It wasn’t on purpose… If anything happens to the baby… it’s just bad luck, that’s all…“.
She insisted she wasn’t blaming Ginny, but her tears said otherwise. The sight of her sobbing in his arms made Chandler grow even more agitated.
He looked up at Ginny with anger in his eyes. “Why are you even here? Melody’s pregnant. She’s already in fragile health. Do you have any idea what your push could’ve done to her?”
Once again, Chandler had chosen Melody over her. It had happened so many times, and yet, every time it pierced Ginny’s heart like the first.
“I didn’t push her,” she said quietly, then turned to leave.
Chandler grabbed her arm before she could walk away. “You think you can just go after hurting someone? Ginny, have you no

manners?”
She could accept that he didn’t love her. She could accept that he wanted to leave her. But she couldn’t accept that the man she once loved most would now use her greatest humiliation as a weapon against her.
It felt like betrayal.
Her eyes sharpened, suddenly cold and sharp enough to cut. Chandler flinched, his guilt betraying him as he looked away.
“Apologize. Apologize to Melody,” he demanded.
“What if I don’t?” Ginny’s voice was steady as she looked at him. “You’re going to force me? Like last time?”
Her tone was even, a simple statement of fact. But Chandler still faltered.
“I’m not trying to force you, but Ginny, you’ve always been someone who owns her mistakes…”
“Oh, so you do know I take responsibility for my actions,” she said quietly. “Then why are you still trying to make me admit to something I didn’t do?”
