Chapter 51 You’ve Suffered Enough
Outside the emergency room, Chandler swung at Ryan the moment the nurse shut the door behind them.
Ryan reeled for half a second before his own fist flew back, connecting squarely.
Within seconds, the two of them were on the verge of an all–out fight.
Ginny rushed forward and wrapped her arms around Chandler’s waist, trying not to raise her voice, terrified of distracting the doctors working inside.
“Stop it,” she whispered, desperate. “Please, stop…”
Chandler shoved her aside. His eyes, dark and unfamiliar, bore into her.
“Don’t pretend to care. If you really gave a damn about Grandpa -if you were truly worried–you wouldn’t have let him say those things.”
“Don’t you dare turn this on her,” Ryan snapped. “You’re the one who created this mess. If anyone needs to reflect, it’s you- not her.”
But Chandler wasn’t listening. He only believed what he saw.

Just as he opened his mouth to fire back, the door to the ER swung open. A doctor stepped out, face tense.
“What the hell is going on out here?” he barked. “If you want the old man to survive, keep it down.”
Then he disappeared inside again, door shutting firmly behind him.
Chandler didn’t speak again. The rage inside him hadn’t cooled, but the doctor’s words held him in check.
The hallway fell into silence. But it was the heavy kind—not peace, but pressure. Everyone was waiting, and none of them
were at ease.
Two hours later, the doors opened again.
Chandler lunged forward. “Doctor, how is he?”
“He’s stable,” the doctor replied. “But he’s elderly. He can’t take any more emotional stress. Whatever family drama is happening, you all need to keep it in check.”
A nurse wheeled the old man out toward the recovery room. The doctor gave Chandler some instructions and left.
Ginny realized the old man would be staying at the hospital for a few days. They hadn’t brought anything with them. She quietly turned to leave. “I’ll go buy some essentials.”

“I’ll go with you,” Ryan offered, standing up.
But just then, Josh stirred.

Ryan immediately stopped her. Chandler’s parents were already at the bedside. Chandler himself was by the door, still on the phone.
As soon as they noticed Josh had woken, they hurried over.
“Grandpa, how do you feel? Are you in pain anywhere? Just say the word and I’ll call the doctor, okay? Don’t try to tough it out.”
Chandler’s voice was unusually gentle, full of concern.
But Josh didn’t even look at him. Instead, he turned his face toward Ginny. “Girl… you’ve suffered, haven’t you? You should’ve told me earlier.”
Ever since she’d lost the baby, Ginny had been living with guilt, buried deep. She rarely brought it up anymore, but that didn’t mean the pain had gone away.
Now, for the first time, someone acknowledged it.
And in that moment, the wall she’d built inside—her quiet strength, her practiced composure–crumbled all at once. All that was left was hurt and bitterness.

“Grandpa… it’s my fault too. I couldn’t protect it,” she said, head resting by the edge of the bed, eyes brimming with tears.
Ryan couldn’t take it anymore.
“If Chandler had shown up that day,” he said, voice tight, “if he’d come to save her when she needed him, the child wouldn’t
have been lost.”
“Ryan, this is our family matter,” Chandler cut in coldly. “You’re an outsider. Maybe you shouldn’t get involved.”
But the more Chandler tried to shut him down, the angrier Ryan
became.
How dare he act like the victim? How dare he try to shift the blame–again?
What, just because Ginny had loved him, he could do whatever he wanted and get away with it?
Maybe in the past, Ryan had swallowed his frustration. But not this time. Not anymore.
“You seem pretty anxious to keep me out of your business. Why? Is it because you know she has no family to back her up, so you think you can treat her however you want?
“You told me not to meddle. But when Melody’s parents showed up, why didn’t I hear you say the same thing to them? Or do you

already see them as your in–laws?”
“Ryan!” Chandler shouted, warning in his tone.
Ryan just stared him down.
The tension between them thickened, the kind that could snap with the smallest movement.
And then–a small, muffled sob cut through the standoff.
Both men turned toward it.
Ginny was hunched over the edge of the bed, crying softly. Not when she talked about the baby. Not when Chandler shoved her away. But now–now, because of Ryan’s words–she broke.
Everyone in the room felt it.
A weight. A shame.
Josh finally understood just how deep her sorrow ran. He turned a hard gaze toward Chandle
“Just a few days ago, you told me you didn’t want a divorce.
Now you’ve gotten someone else pregnant. Is this what I taught you?”
He sighed. “It’s happened. There’s no undoing it now. So just give it to me straight. What are you planning to do?”

He didn’t want to lose Ginny. He’d grown to love her like family. But more than that, he didn’t want his affection to become her burden.
She’d been through too much already.
If leaving Chandler meant she could finally live happier–freer- then he’d give her his blessing.
As for Chandler… if he was stupid enough to let a girl like her slip away, then the regret would be his alone to carry.
Chandler hadn’t slept all night. He had no idea how things had spun so far out of control.
He didn’t want a divorce.
But when it came to Melody… he didn’t know what to do, either.
