Chapter 50 Sought Justice

“Ginny, calm down. I know you’re hurting, but being upset won’t fix anything.
“Think carefully. Has anything else happened in the last few days? I just can’t shake the feeling that Professor Edwards‘ decision came out of nowhere. It’s not like him,” Ryan said.
Ginny sat quietly, trying to piece things together. After a long moment, she shook her head. “When he left a few days ago, he said he was looking forward to me joining the lab overseas. Yesterday, I missed my flight, and when I reached out to him, he still sounded perfectly pleasant.”
Why, then, had everything fallen apart overnight?
“Now I’ve been kicked out of the lab by Professor Edwards. Melody’s pregnant with Chandler’s child. And to top it off, they’ve posted that article twisting everything—”
“What did you just say?”
Ryan’s eyes flared with anger. The second he heard Melody was carrying Chandler’s child, he glared at Ginny.
“They’ve already humiliated you like this, and you’re just going to keep your head down like nothing’s happening? Stay quiet and wait for Chandler to come crawling back, and then what- pretend like everything’s fine again?”

His voice was tight with frustration. Like he couldn’t bear to see her shrinking back, over and over again.
Ginny shook her head. “No… it won’t happen. Even if I wanted to stay, Melody wouldn’t allow it now.”
She was the Wheeler family’s darling. Now that her parents had seen the article, they’d never let her suffer even a hint of grievance.
No matter what Melody did, her family would protect her.
And Ginny–she had no one. She’d always been alone.
But… at least she still had Ryan.
If not for him…
“Okay,” he said, more gently now, “no more crying. I’m taking you to the Pierce estate. We’ll demand justice.”
He grabbed her hand and started pulling her toward the door. Ginny hesitated.
“Maybe we shouldn’t,” she murmured. “Chandler’s grandparents are getting old. Just the other day, they were already worked up over everything going on between me and him. If they find out about this now…”

“Ginny,” he cut in, “how can you still care how the Pierce family feels? If there was even one fair–minded person in that house, you wouldn’t be in this mess.”
Ignoring her resistance, Ryan led her to the car.
“Think about it on the way there,” he said as they pulled out of the lot. “Do you want to get a divorce? If you do, I’ll help you.”
He paused, hands tightening on the steering wheel. “And if you don’t, I’ll still help you.
“But the path I take will be different. The way I speak, the way I act it’ll all depend on your answer. So I need you to be clear with me.”
He said nothing more after that.
Ginny leaned back in her seat, eyes drifting to the passing scenery outside the window. Her heart was anything but calm.
Every time she thought about leaving Chandler, she saw his expression from yesterday at the airport. The one she couldn’t forget.
She’d held on for five years–fought for five long years–and finally, finally things had begun to shift…
But then she thought again: if Chandler really cared, truly cared, he wouldn’t have gotten another woman pregnant while they

were still married.

Even if there had been feelings, that kind of betrayal–that kind of disrespect–was unforgivable.
And a man like that… wasn’t someone she wanted.
The hospital wasn’t far from the Pierce family’s estate. Before long, they arrived at the villa.
As Ryan led Ginny toward the gate, another car pulled up.
It was the Wheelers.
Mrs. Wheeler stormed ahead, face tight with fury. She was too focused to notice anyone else.
Mr. Wheeler, on the other hand, had crossed paths with Ryan in the business world before. When he saw him now, walking with Ginny, he gave him a slight nod.
His gaze lingered on Ginny–there was something familiar about her. A sense that they’d met before.
Just as he was about to ask her, his wife’s voice rang out up ahead. He quickened his pace and followed her into the house.
It was a little past ten, the sun streaming gently into the garden.
Josh and Deborah were seated on the lawn, chatting as they

enjoyed the morning warmth. They were talking, in fact, about Ginny and Chandler.
Then the housekeeper approached. “The Wheeler couple is here. And so are Ginny and Ryan.”
Josh’s expression shifted. Four of them arriving together—that didn’t feel like good news.
Deborah tried to brush it off.
“You’re overthinking it. Didn’t you say the other day that Ginny’s a good girl? And she loves Chandler. It’s only been a few days how bad could it be? It’ll be fine.”
But reality had a way of proving people wrong.
“What did you say?” Deborah gasped, eyes wide. “Melody is pregnant with Chandler’s child?”
She turned instinctively to her husband, terrified that the shock might harm him.
Josh didn’t respond right away. His eyes were locked on Ginny.
“Ginny… is this true?”
Ryan’s jaw tightened. He didn’t like the way the old man asked- as if Ginny owed them an explanation for Chandler’s mess.

The Wheeler family had shown up at their doorstep. How could it not be true?
Ryan’s hands curled into fists.
And then, he remembered-
He remembered the child Ginny had lost. The one no one had ever asked about.
And his expression darkened.
